Nice catch Rob...
The location is different for different versions of windows. I believe what I posted is for WinXP.

I found a source for RS232 to TTL cables but there seem to be two choices- 3.3V or 5V TTL chipsets. It looks like the 5V is the more typical converter, is that the cable I should purchase to connect?

Really looking forward to trying this out! Just have to get my motor back together...

Steve -
You may be able to make those cables work with some modification. But I would suggest getting the SerialLink on Danno's website: http://www.gururacing.net

Look at the price chart.

Chris,

Thanks, I hadn't checked if Danno had the cables for sale. It would make more sense for the long run to go with USB rather than serial anyway...

Cheers!

wait CPT,
your program doesn't work with USB??
That may be the solution because I'm using the serialLink with a serial->USB convertor because the laptop doesn't have a serial port...

That would do it! I don't have a USB Link yet. I need to borrow one to enable that functionality. I will get one soon and get up to speed!

How close are you to enabling data loading from the laptop to the AFM without the tuning module?

No, go your dos prompt and type path. You'll notice that windows\system doesn't appear in the list, but windows\system32 does (unless you've changed it). The last OS to have windows\system in the path by default would have been (I think) win95.

Of course you could just dump the OCX in the application directory, it'll be guaranteed to find the file then. You will probably have to run regsvr32 on it again if you move it, though.

Months... I have to get my car back together so I can continue programming. That will take three weeks. After that, I will get the logging part of the program perfect. Then I will begin working on further functionality.

The program directory is most likely where it is going to be when I package it. until then, since everyone has the program in different places on their PC, one location seemed the most straight foreword. But if anyone cannot get the registering to work, put the OCX in the same path as the application.
