Default Vitesse II Turbo Boost Curve

For anyone wondering how fast the Vitesse stage II turbo with quick spool can boost, here is the answer. This is a scatter of boost versus RPM after about an hour of running with plenty of full bore runs (Link 2 datalogging)

This is using a Hallman MBC with a Tial 38mm WG. Very nice...

What gear was that run done in? That's about 250 sooner then mine? In 4th I get full boost @ 3150. Now I'm pissed because I know a little more can be squeezed out of it . John, this isn't fair!

Its not really in a single gear. Its a scatter of boost versus rpm for a rane of driving conditions from flooring it from crawling in 1st, to flooring it at 2,000rpm in 4th. The peak boost for any given RPM is captured. I run stand alone and use fairly agggressive timing between 2-3 krpm and use about 13.5:1 during spool up and then 12.5:1 under WOT. THis is the best I can get it to spool.

Incidently, I am running about 93% injector duty cycle at 18psi holding a 12.5:1 AFR. Accoring to RC engineerings site and using a BSFC of .5 I should be seeing about 340rwhp. Does that sound right for my set up??

I wonder what my BSFC is as my car has no cat and an open j pipe?? .5 sounds low. If I follow RC's advice and use a .6 is gives me 297rwhp. So whats the real BSFC? Someone must have compared their dyno results and back calcualted BSFC for a set up like mine.

Man oh man, that is one sweet chart. I can't want to get my '51 back on the black top and put this phat turbo to use. It's 99.5% complete. Hopefully next weekend, she will roll out of the shop.

progress from weekend before last

Yeah Sam it is. Actually, I'm using a $13 Home depot boost controller and in fourth gear I jump on it @ 2850 and I'm at full boost 300 later. Now that my WG issues are resolved I'll go back to my AVC-R. I think there's more to be had with my turbo.

It appears that he got on it around 2500. At least I have something to shoot for on my commute home today.

Default WOW!

Man, that Link 2 is impressive!!

Davinder, looks great. Are you running 18psi all the time and on pump gas?

How would you compare this turbo to the K26/8?

Vic
I have actually built up to it over the last 3 weeks of driving. I started at 15psi and saw some pretty conservative injector DC's with no knock and slowly stepped up. I am at the limit right now and I know John would not approve but the motor runs to redline with a good AFR, and shows a regular noise pattern on the knock sensor. I am a bit leary of running the injectors at over 90% so I will probably dial it back....Its hard to go back though Maybe I need bigger injectors and more boost!

It's good to see that you're doing well with the Link 2. I'm sure it's light years ahead of the AFM MAP kit!

My car will eventually end up with a Link 2 setup. Seeing your progress and results reassures me that it's the right way to go. (for my 3.0L that is.. Thanks for the updates.

Hey Davinder, its Raj here. I own a 968 turbo and would like to understand what is involved in setting up the Link2. Can you please elaborate on it a little. How much can you attribute your numbers to link2?
Regards.

Davinder,
Nice graph, thank you for taking the time to generate it and to post it. One of the results of the quick spool is the increased are under the power curve. The 951 engine is not a high revving engine, so the sooner the power curve starts the better. Not knowing how your timing map is, I would expect your car at this boost level to be between 345-370rwhp.. However, peak numbers are not as important as the power curve..

That's the good side... The bad side, is that you must stay on top of it, when boost hits, it's there with plenty or torque.. So quick spool is great, but requires a much more responsible driver.
