What is the "console"?

I don't have power steering on my '87 944 Turbo because I did not like the feel of the power steering above 100 mph. I live near the German border. Der Autobahn with unlimited speed is approx. a 30 minute drive. I have replaced the power steering rack with a manual steering rack with all the appropriate tie rods, steering shaft and whatsoever.
When you don't have power steering, you don't have a use for a power steering pump. Because I have no use for a power steering pump, I don't need the cover for the lower balance shaft with a mounting point for the power steering pump. I replaced it with a cover without the mounting point for the power steering pump (last pictures). According to PET that console has to be mounted with three M8 x 50 mm bolts. The console for the power steering pump has to be bolted on with three M8 x 60 mm bolts. I did use the M8 x 50 mm bolts, but they seem to be just a little bit too long. While torqueing down the bolts they must have been bottomed out. Therefore the console was not properly seated, causing the leak.

Below some pictures (because we all like pictures):

11:51am - Start

12:10pm - Airfilterbox and belt covers removed

12:11pm - Safety first!

12:16pm - Front of the car lifted

12:19pm - Alternator adjuster loosened

12:20pm - Alternator belt off

12:26pm - Set to TDC

12:28pm - Ready to take the starter out, but first a tea break!

13:08pm - Starter out and flywheel lock in place

13:12pm - Locking the automatic belt adjuster

13:14pm - Belts are off

13:37pm - Alternator adjuster taken off of balance shaft console

13:40pm - Noticing wet spots on the balance shaft cover

13:50pm - Console removed

13:54pm - The console

Parts for resealing the console are on its way. Just have to sort out the correct bolts and next weekend all will be put back onto the car.
Until then I will keep my fingers crossed!

congratulations on finding the leak 👍👍👍

Fingers crossed 🤞 she fires right up.

Now that the cover (console) is off, have you tried out the bolts again to confirm they bottom out with the head position measuring further than the console thickness?

@Frank@Work I am sure it is just the photo, but looks like the Pink Porsche coolant is in the washer fluid tank and blue washer fluid is in the coolant tank. But I am sure it is just an optical illusion.

My washer fluid is pink.
My waterless coolant is green but looks blue in the picture.

It has been some time, but I’m still in the process of getting the car back on the road. Have spent a lot of time chasing down an oil leak. Turned out to be the front cap of the oil gallery. I had replaced the caps and did not use any loctite. Replaced the front cap again, but now with a retaining loctite. Probably will have to do the cap on the rear as well, but not in the mood right now.

On Friday I went to the dyno to dial in the fuel mapping (AugTronic ECU). Session started out ok, but at some point the (rebuild) turbo started complaining (puff of smoke when letting off the throttle). The puff off smoke got worse and when the smoke also occured during full throttle we decided to end the session.

I’ve asked Charlie (Evergreen Turbo) to build me a turbo and as soon as the turbo has been put on the engine I will go back to the dyno.

Tomorrow the car will go for the mot inspection. Two weeks ago I had the car checked by a mot mechanic. Only a few minor points had to be taken care of. Not bad for a car I took completely apart and put back together.

Passed the MOT today! The next MOT is in two years.

Will start tearing down the engine to get the turbo off this week.

Congratulations! You've spent so much time and effort and now you're closer than ever to being able to enjoy it. What are the specs going to be on the Evergreen turbo?

It's what Carlie calls the Raptor upgrade.
Machined turbine housing for a lightweight 9 blade turbine that is 58mm and a 54mm billet compressor side.
For the current engine I'm not looking for tons of horsepower, but the Raptor upgrade will deliver a serious amount of horses.

I had Evergreen Turbo rebuild my K26 for my 86 951 a couple of years ago when I was rebuilding and repainting my car. His work is spot on and for me, he's local. Car was a barn find and I had the body repainted again (white) and then turned the car into a "Martini Racing Team" tribute car. Although the was a total restoration I'm still tweeking things but it runs strong and finally brakes great (had to toss the cross-drilled rotors and pads and return to the plain rotors and semi-metallic pads).

I have received the Raptor turbo from Evergreen Turbo's. Looks great!
The inlet is 2,75". My LR silicone J boot is 2". Tried to order a 3" (with sleeve for 2,75") J boot from LR, but the seem to be out of stock for some time and aren't expecting any soon. :-(

Probably will have to make my own J boot. I will start hacking up a stock J boot to see how it will fit.

I always enjoy scrolling through the amazing photos of this incredible project. I noticed the timing belt track seems to be rearward of where they normally run. Is it possible the tensioner and or tensioning sprocket is from a 16 valve car?
Also, I believe I have a new LR silicone J boot on the shelf here in the US that is not currently needed. PM me if you'd like me to ship it out.
