I just wasn't sure where it might fit in my stable in terms of driving experience. I've decided that I'd like to use it as my summer/fair weather daily driver. Thus, I'm looking for an automatic, well-maintained car. I am very comfortable doing any and all mechanical work, and I do for several classics, but I don't want this car to be having needs from the get go.

Have gravitated to the S4 as a sweet spot of the refreshed, more modern design and the availability of the auto. Really, really would a like a car that's been loved and maintained by an ardent enthusiast, with known history and records. I would absolutely appreciate and drink up all the TLC bestowed on one of these gems. That's how I am with my classics and I know what that is worth. Color-wise, looking for almost anything but red, black or silver.

I openly welcome your comments and thoughts about my selection... Luis
Besides this thread, also check out the members classified vehicle market place. Good ones pop up there fairly often. Did you see this one? https://rennlist.com/forums/showpost.php?p=14863251&postcount=4236 or this one? https://rennlist.com/forums/showpost...postcount=4228 The previous owner of the Marine Blue one made a post about it a few posts below.

Thanks for the pointers guys. Yeah, the BAT one was black and I was not enthralled by a burgundy interior either. The classifieds still confuse me after 17 years on this forum; searching never seems to return anything but th one page of results in spite of entering "since beginning" or such, instead of the default 45 days... Anyway, Nate, thanks for those two pointers. I'm really diggin' that Diamond Blue. .. Yummy color. What do you all think the wire across the rad is for?? The bat... what...?? Translation please. The one in Miami, well... I may be irrational but I have a natural gut driven aversion to Florida cars, especially So. FL and a normally-neglected car like a 928... Call me silly...

Luis - you cannot go wrong with this one: https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=472078155&ownerId=71444641&searchRadius=0.

It is a rennlister's car (see Buccicone, his name is Mike). I have caravanned with that car and it is very nice, needs nothing, and priced right.

Edit - my mistake again, you said no red. Oh well, Mike's car is worth an exception!

Can you guys expand on this? I'm considering a car in South Florida (not a 928). Is it a weather thing or something else?

It's a shady dealer thing.
Shady dealers are everywhere.
But, they seem more prevalent in Florida.

Ahh, I guess I can see that. I'm talking to a private seller on this one, but was curious if there was something I should be aware of.

Just want to point out that the Parkhous Blue on Blue 928 is not originally a Florida car. It is a Canadian car that lived in Canada until I brought it down to Florida in 2014.

Default '89 auto on ebay

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1989-Porsche-928-S4/273109069746?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

He has pictured an added drive shaft clamp (amazing considering many do not even show the engine). Is anybody familiar with this clamp?

edit: I rec'd a prompt answer from the seller on the clamp: "The RiTech Clamp

was purchased through 928s R Us. Please let me know if you have any other questons."

The purpose of that wire is to let potential buyers know that the car has been worked on by a hack and that there are more problems that you cannot see.

Seriously: no way to know until someone who knows 928s PPIs it. But that wire is BIG and RED and not factory. Thus a red flag.

Since you are looking for an ‘87+ Auto you need to educate yourself on thrust bearing (TBF) and crank end-play measurement.

Hi Dave, Yes thanks for the heads up on the TBF/Flexplate/End play issue. I've done a fair amount of reading on it the over the years and boned up on it very recently. Relative to this, I contacted the car-with-the-hacked-red-wire seller to ask him about the TBF issue and he was unaware of its existence or what it is but indicated he would have his shop look at it. He also indicated he's putting the vehicle on BAT at some point in the next few weeks.

Somewhat odd 928 popped up in my neck of the woods... its a "1987 928 S"

https://indianapolis.craigslist.org/...531651863.html

Sitting on the inside it looks like an S4, but the outside looks like a pre 87 S. Wonder what under the hood?

Might be an 86.5
