Are you serious about the seller wanting more money? If so, that makes me feel better about missing out on such a smokin' good deal being stuck in the midwest... $2,000 was just too low. Any idea what he's looking for now price-wise?

Dave, so the seller now thinks his car is worth something big and cancelled the deal with Padhammer?

Padhammer: is the deal still good with you?

Hoi- this is out near you isn't it?

The car's been on sale for >1 yr. Euro yes, not sure if it is S or not since it is "1990". Too far away in LI. I'm just south of Philly ~3 hrs away if not more.

My car is for sale if someone wants it here, a big Rennlist discount! At least my runs, steers, brakes, starts .

A local friend who owns a pristine GT and does his own work was in contact w/ him, went w/ trailer and ca$h in hand, no deal was made, he is on his way back, I'll get the skinny later today at our monthly beer night GTG.

Car has many paint issues, full respray will most likely be required to make it 100%, dash did light up 66k on the clock and all the usual deferred maintenance items plus sitting non-running 9 years. Seller thinks he is going to get north of 10k now. I say good for him, hope he get it

Only $4.06 and $10.16, respectively. I bought three sets the other week. Spread the word...

Otherwise, that car is perfect.

Thanks for the advice! I had a feeling that might be the case. I will continue to be patient until the right one comes up.

Just out of curiosity, how much do 928 modules generally go for? I had trouble finding pricing for such an item. And is it a common failure item.

Thanks.

From what I know:

- The rear dent is not registered as an accident on vehicle history reports.
- All belts were described as taught, unbroken / undamaged. I'd hedge there's no valve interference damage and engine can be returned to working order.
- Its under 60k miles, undriven for almost 10-years.
- VIN WP0AA2927MS810348

I know that the 928 is nicknamed 'shark' but we shouldn't be 'sharks'.
Someone should help the seller get what this is worth, it seems that he is genuinely trying to do something for his step-family and doesn't know what he's got.

IMO, $12k-$16k is what this is worth today. Those that have the means to fix this up independently will have a $30k plus car with tons of upside and equity in it.
I went to look at this car today with the intention of buying it for a fair price. I started by telling the seller via email that he should not sell the car for $2k because it's worth more than that. After several phone conversations it was clear he knows nothing about Porsches or 928s, but is quickly getting a crash course on the basics. I told him I would not try to take advantage of his original low asking price, but would make an offer based on what I think the actual value is based on what it would take to get it back to good cosmetic and mechanical condition and what it is likely worth after that. His valuation was based on the advice of a local Porsche dealer employee who looked at the car (by flashlight) and told the seller he would have a hard time getting rid of it for $2k. Obviously whoever gave that advice wasn't aware of what 928 GTs sell for in good running condition or even what the parts alone would be worth. He was only looking at the overall condition which is extremely poor.

I drove from the Detroit area to Buffalo, NY this morning. The seller had told me that he had sight unseen offers from multiple buyers for $2k, $3k and $4k, but I was (as far as I know) the first interested buyer to see the car in person. In short it was a complete let down. This car was in far worse condition than the pictures in the ad or the many pictures the owner sent me would suggest.

First the good. I connected a fully charged battery with jumper cables to the battery in the car. The dash lit up and showed 66k miles. It was last inspected in 2008 and has apparently not been driven since then. There were no fluid leaks as shown by no drips in the spot where the car sat outside all winter. The oil, PS fluid and coolant looked/smelled good. The timing belt is intact and the engine turns easily by hand. I did not try to turn it over on the starter fearing that the timing belt might disintegrate. The clutch and brake hydraulics are still functioning. They both held pressure when the pedals were depressed. Other than the relatively low miles and lack of leaks I couldn't find much else good about it.

Exterior - The large dent in the LH rear fender shown in the CL ad is just the tip of the iceberg. There are major scrapes and minor scratches on most body panels. The driver side door has a large sag in the paint showing a poor quality respray of at least that panel. Even if the rest of the paint is original it needs a full respray to look presentable due to the dent and many scrapes/scratches all over the body. Rub strips on both doors have made contact with the front fenders when being opened. RH headlight has moisture inside the lens and is rubbing the outside of the bucket on the fender. The RH fog light lens is cracked so is the LH tail light. Tires are dry rotted to the point of splitting around half the circumference of the sidewall. I'm surprised they still hold air. Cup 1 wheels have paint scuffing and scratches. I didn't look to see if they were OEM or reproduction wheels or size/offset. Brakes will need pads, rotors and flex hoses at a minimum and most likely rebuilding to replace all rubber seals in the system. The lower front fascia spoiler is missing along with both belly pans. The exhaust system looks original and has the small GT resonators and dual tip outlet muffler. The underside of the car looks fairly clean without any major rust and no crushed seat support rails. I didn't seen any obvious crash repairs to the front frame or rear body.

Interior - Driver seat bolster has significant drying/cracking. The carpets are dirty and stained and the door panel carpet is peeling off. The bottom of the LH door panel catches on the door sill lip when opening. No cracks in the dash or other signs of sun damage, but the steering column trim is brown. Not sure if that's discoloration due to age or sun exposure or something else. There is a built in radar detector on the top of the steering column. The CE panel isn't hacked and the padding on the back side of the carpet in the foot wells is dry. The interior mirror is loose inside the car along with the glass for the LH exterior mirror. The sunroof motor cover is off and has a broken tab. The tweeter in the RH door is missing. There is no spare tire cover or air compressor. The tool kit looked to be complete.

Engine compartment - Mice have been living here for a while. I found a large nest inside the airbox where they had eaten through the filter and found a dead mouse under the car that fell out of one of the intake ducts. Mice have chewed the plug wires and destroyed the hood liner. I was very concerned that they've done to the wire harnesses. Every bit of rubber under the hood needs to be replaced.

Electrical - The CE panel looks unmolested. The dash lit up as it should with the key turned on. Lights headlights and fog lights work. The RH turn signals front and rear would not blink. Power seats work except fore/aft adjustment for the passenger seat. Windows, rear hatch release and exterior mirrors are inop. I didn't try the sunroof. Headlights lift and retract, but need adjustment of the bucket to keep it from rubbing on the edge of the fender opening.

The amount of work this car will need to just be road worthy is staggering. To return it to excellent condition would take a huge amount of time and money. Despite this I was willing to offer $4500, but the seller has another interested buyer who told him that he'll give at least $10k for it as it sits and will outbid any other offer. IMO $10k is crazy high for a car in this condition even if it is a GT with 66k miles. It needs major work on everything and there are several complete unknowns like the engine, clutch and trans. Good luck to whoever buys it. I was kinda glad I didn't bring it home. I was not looking forward to the amount of restoration it will require.

^^^That's the problem with people filling the poor seller's head with dreams of rigging it big with this "gem", when he could've easily sold it for double his asking price at $3-5k. It's one thing to be "nice" and "educate" him, but now the poor fellow likely won't be selling this car anytime soon due to his holding out for that $10k cash in hand.

Does anyone here actually think that $10k is waiting for him to collect? Does anyone here think a Rennlister will ever offer something better than $4500?

Too bad...
