928s for Sale

Patience is called for. Serious bidding is always in the last few minutes. The more positive comments the better. They take time to acrue but will give bidders more confidence in bidding on a "sight unseen" car. I suspect some sellers ask their friends to say nice things as well.

Hi uneekone, I'm in the market for 5 speed and thinking about bidding on that 91 GT on BaT. I'n new 928's, what imperfections did you (and others) pick-up on?

Someone here did get it ...
Someone here for sure ALMOST got it!
Oh well, felt sh!tty about it since he told me he's getting me info so I can make the deposit, then sold his car while I waited. Cash always win.
Buyer must be local and I think most likely a dealer. Wait for the flip, it will come back out of the shadows. I also hope another Rennlister has it.

I now need to decide whether to invest in a full resto or keep the patina. Any input? Either way, this one probably will not be coming up for sale anytime soon. I hope to park it next to my 91 S4 making it the other bookend of my 928 collection. I will share some better pics once I get it home.

Hi ... I was able to get this car ... Hoi, I had no idea you were interested in the car (how many do you have now?), but I am super excited to see it. After talking with the owner, who is a very nice older gentlemen, I just agreed to wire the cash right away. I think he just wanted an easy and quick sale.

The old man was just a little too crumy, and I didn't expect it from an old person like him. I thought his generation can still be relied on with his word. He told me he had to go home and get me his Paypal/banking info so I can make a deposit immediately. I had his word to call me right away for the info so I can wire him the money, since it was still early here in east coast. By the time I called him back after the meeting, he told me someone gave him cash (which obviously didn't happen and he lied about it, since you mentioned that you bought it by wiring him money). I had made calls before when I am not the first interested party and the seller would ask me to wait and see if the last caller's deal falls through. Not sure how you convinced him to sell you the car after talking to me about it for 15 min. He kept telling me he has to go back home and get info from his wife for the transaction. This is the 2nd collectable car I missed because the seller didn't keep his word.
Hopefully, the car is nicer than how he described it. He really didn't know much about it with some very basic questions that I asked. This is a collectable with US VIN <50.
Congrats and good luck!

The crazy numbers on BaT during the past year (two black S4 from the same seller, one auto and one manual, $28k, $34k, respectively) got there due to low miles and originality. The silver euro '80 or '81 manual that was sold $21,500 ~4 months ago was on sale here on Rennlist for $14,500 for the longest time, and no one here bought it but someone on BaT bought it for $21,500. BaT buyers contain another batch of buyers outside of Rennlist that generally values originality much more than mods.
The current '91 GT with all those mods should hit $32-35k only on reputation and desirability of GT alone. An original '91 GT with all service records and updated to original specs should hit $40-45k easily. If an S4 is as modded as that sample without service history, it may only hit $20k.
The outlier of all this is Stan's Samantha, which is heavily modded, but the car's documented history and it's owner (Stan) easily overcome the questionable collectibility aspect of that car. Same is true for Mark's '91 Cobalt GT.
I hope I am wrong and the GT brings $50k. We will all benefit!

Hoi, that stinks, a persons word, even in this day and age, should be reliable.

Both he and his wife have been delightful to deal with since the purchase. I am going fly into CO, pickup the car and drive it home with a buddy. He said he was going to take the car in and have everything gone over to make sure its ready for us and he will have the new tires installed that I am going to have shipped to him. I have to say ... and knock on wood ... this is the fourth time I've done a fly and drive and every seller has been outstanding and thoughtful. Hopefully this will be no different.

Congrats on the score. If you remember, try looking under the glove box for the build number. I'm really curious where the early us 78's fall in the build sequence....and also, hopefully the added rear wing will be easy to remove.
Hi Hoi - that is disappointing. I do hope it was just a miscue. One possibility is that the car is not at his current home (he just moved) and he couldnt get you a picture. Another possibility is that he is just an old guy ... wouldnt be the first time an old guy forgets a few things (hell my wife tells me that I forget all kinds of stuff and Im only semi-old, although my kids leave the semi part off). You are correct, he didnt have many details on the car, and I wasnt quite sure what I was buying (and still not, although its worth the chance).

Well damn! See what have I been saying guys? The US auto '84s with all black interiors are where you want to be. While all of you are running around trying to gobble up the OBs, the Pashas, The GTs and the GTSs, us '84 guys are just lying in the weeds waiting for unsuspecting bidders to buy our cars and their 4.5L supercharged V8s....

Unless it's the photos, the stitching doesn't appear to be very straight.
