I was planning on listing this car I bought recently to see where the demand is before I start making changes to what is a VERY original car. As in, everything that is supposed to be there is there, down to the jumper post cover.

I will obviously take better pics, but polishing and washing take time, and I have other projects.

1986.5 928 Auto
Gold over Brown
120k miles
Belt checked
May replace tires on 16s, but riding on the 18s you see in one of the pics.
I will be replacing the TPS as it shorts at WOT.
Just changed oil and Coolant.
Needs normal 928 stuff, including Pan gasket, motormounts, tie rods, etc.

The great thing about posting it here first is I get to say this: If you think changing the motormounts and doing the pan gasket is some HUGE monumental task, then you shouldn't be here. These cars are 30 years old. This thing was stored for 3 years because of a timing belt light. The timing belt is great, and the ground came off. Put it back on with the help of a great guy (I can do all this, but I disassemble), and have been driving for a couple weeks every day.

The paint is fine for DD, but it is not going to shine up because the clear has fracturing. It is not coming off, but it looks like it has microscratches.

That said, in its current state, I think its at least 7k. Thoughts? Be honest, I can take it.

My educated guess is $4500 to $6500. Yes, you will be upside down to make this right but that is the norm with a car such as this. Love the color combo!!

With all of the talk are there pictures of the GT? What is the color combo?

But that custom interior is worth a fortune! Such fine craftsmanship.

Color combo - 37W Midnight Blue Metallic / Nachtblau Perl.

The Craigs List ad has been removed, and I didn't save the 3 pics that were posted there. I only have this one exterior shot.

The 2 exterior pics posted in the ad really didn't show how bad the paint was. One did show the large dent in the LH rear fender. It was the length of my forearm from elbow to tip of my fingers and about 6-8" tall. Pushed in a couple inches and the paint was cracked and flaking off a large part of the dented area. There were scuffs that won't buff out and scratches on most panels. Needs a full respray.

The owner sent me several pics of the interior. Again, the interior shots don't really show how bad the condition was. The lower section of the door panels were falling off the door and the carpet on the lower section was peeling away badly. Lots of dirt/stains everywhere. The leather was dry, but only cracked on the driver side bolster. The horn buttons and steering column surround pieces appeared to be brown not faded black or blue. All the rubber was dry rotted and falling apart (window seals, trim strips, etc. IMO the interior was about the same as the Cobalt GT that Rob Edwards brought back to life, possibly worse. Salvageable, but would require a lot of time and/or money to clean up and repair.

Here are a couple of the engine and timing belts. The engine looked pretty original and nothing appeared to be missing or messed with too badly by previous owners. All the damage was done by time and the mice living in the engine compartment and chewing on everything.

Thanks for the pics and info. Definitely is a bit on the rough side.

^^^Nice front seats and maybe the dash is still in good condition. If it drives, just need a paint job!
The front interior is very nice....

He couldn't find a source for the Pascha so he used the closest thing to it he could find at his local JoAnn Fabrics... But seriously, the piping even. Why? Just why...?

The front seats looks like new vinyl covers. The back seats have holes, the fronts not.
In my opinion it's a parts car. Doing the paint Job with all rubber parts is near 10.000 €.
It's not an Euro S or an S3.
Doing the maintenance with brakes, and all the other stuff is the next 5k.

Too late to bid, but this ebay listing for a '78 closed/sold at $9,000

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1978-Porsche...53.m1438.l2649

Listed by a dealer, who called it a "1978 Porsche S" . Rear seat A/C doesn't seem legit for a '78, and the spare tire cover would have been chipboard, not the plastic, correct? Aftermarket radio, dash cover hides unknown, wrong wheels, exhaust, and rear quarter trim is bright. Auto trans & leather seats, which look good. I bet the interior is a transplant from a newer car. Paint looks good in the photos. And there's an issue raised in the questions as to the VIN, and if the car is actually a '78 or '79.

Questionable, but presentable driver-quality car. Was it well bought?

The pictures are very small but it´s a very clean looking car.
If you have an original fetish stay away! ;-)
The interieur is very nice and the paint, rims and brakes looks very good too.
