I also like the 51 with the red second hand…However, as I understand it, the hands and date wheels are from the donor watch. That's why I did the side by side. If i could get s red second hand without some kind of lumo dot I would add it to the 51.

A link only the DIY type or Horologist who want to understand the inner workings of a 7s26 movement. Chapter 8 explains how the 'autowinder' functions for those curious.
I'd presume these will be available by Christmas >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 2014 ... maybe sooner.

HEY. JAMES, how do you like them apples? The OP started this thread with with idea of producing a much cheaper version of the $800 limited edition of the watch that you guys came up with, and then stated that he "had gone beyond that design" or similar words. However, it now appears that the design that has resulted is really nothing more than a thinly disguised version of what you guys originally came up with and marketed for a lot of bucks to several of us on a limited production basis.
The current design is what I would say is too close a resemblence of the original design as to create confusion about what the resulting watch is. This "new" design has the ! at the 12 oclock, the same as your design, it has a very similar outline of the 928 at the bottom although it has a little bird shot dealy that could be interpreted as a replication of the S4 wing, and it has the 928 starting at the 9 o'clock positon, just as your design, but it then has the 2 and the 8 right after rather than in their clock positions. That seems to be the only realistic difference from your original design.
What I think that results in is the appearance of this new 928 watch being mistaken for the original nearly $800 version, but for only the meager $150 or less. Of course there is the additional fact that the new version of the 928 watch is built on a cheesy little Sieko watch rather than the robust watch you guys used. That in itself maybe makes a siginificant difference in respect to confusion of the two designs.
I know that you are not likely to take exception to this project as it has developed, but I would if I were you. I think the orignial idea of replicating your design has in fact directed the design of this project and has succeeded in that goal, with very minimal deviations from your design.
Maybe you see it differently than that; but this is just my take on it.

I'm not sure what you were hoping to do here, other than **** James off and cause hate and discontent. Anyway, you're way off base. I threw out the idea of a tachometer-based design in my first post in this thread:
But that's beside the point.
The point is that the group designed a watch dial to reflect their appreciation of the 928. There are only a few possible design elements: The Porsche emblem, the numbers '928', the car itself, and maybe one or two miscellaneous elements - in this case, the [!], which is common to many Porsches, and an element in the design of other 'homage' items. I posted the Cayenne 'P!gpen' shirt as an example.
Did I straight steal the idea of the [!] as the 12 o'clock marker? Yep! It was a damn clever idea, whoever came up with it. I'd do it again in a heartbeat without any hesitation. But, again, that's the only element of the dial that I personally insisted upon. (It was the only element of the original dial that I really liked.)
So, no, I didn't steal the design, I didn't even use it as a template. The group may have, but - as I said - there are precious few design elements available and apparently there was a great appreciation for the design of the previous watch.
As far as it being a cheap knockoff made from a flimsy Seiko: Inexpensive? Yes. Cheap? No. The Seiko 7S26 series of watches are as rugged and well-made as any mass-produced watch out there. Their quality, accuracy, and robustness easily equal any manufacturer on the planet for a fraction of the price. Besides, no mechanical made can match the durability or accuracy of a $50 Casio G-Shock or Timex Triathlon.
So, it's not a question of quality, it's a question of value. Are you getting $800 worth of value out of the watch James created? If so: great, enjoy. But the existence of this watch should impact that no more than the existence of the 924 ruins your Shark for you.
Maybe you see it differently than that; but this is just my take on it.

I honestly don't think there would be too many confusing these two... are there similarities - yes - are there obvious differences - yes. The watch case style and design is vastly different - regardless of the face design.
Have at it to each his own...

Oh my gosh, and they both have hands that tell the time!!! Maybe we should have gone with a Casio digital?!!
Looking through my designs the current Seiko face was one of the designs considered on the limited edition watch which never included day/date. The design went to the tach hour minute marks, the 9, 2, and 8 in the clock positions, made in germany, and custom red hands matching the indicators on the dash, custom black second hand with white tip, and a custom luminous red for the red on the face and hands.
I also understood from a post made by James that using some but not all of the elements in the limited edition watch was okay with him.

There is just SO much wrong with the post.
Jerry first you accused James & co for over charging for their watch?
Then you accused the new design to be a copy.
Then you said it is a cheap watch. So the people interested in the watch either are below average intelligence or are getting duped by OP.
Did you leave anybody not insulted in the post?

Shawn......from the poll you have sufficient numbers to get at least the first run complete. If theres sufficient interest in another 'batch' then perhaps then theres a tweek to the design.
Please continue and not be distracted.

I love the direction you've gone with, keep it up and let us know when we can send money.

Ya know, I may be wrong, but I darn sure seem to remember a whole lot of the 928 crew here on RL putting in the suggestions that resulted in the first 928 watch. About the same as with this Seiko watch. I don't remember a special select committee of a few people making the complete Leica design, then presenting it to us here as their creation. And don't most 928 items created for our cars to serve a specific purpose resemble the original product? Say like fender liners or cowl covers? btw, did you check with Porsche prior to manufacture to get their ok prior to making a copy? And why are these products a great thing? Cause they provide a need for those of us who love our 928s. So does this watch! And Shawn is doing this out of his love for the 928 & watches, as a service to us. I don't think he is making any profit for his efforts as a 928 vendor.
I have a Leica 928 watch, its great, I hardly ever wear it cause I want it to remain pristine & with $900 in it, that was a lot of money to me. I am thrilled with this Seiko designed 928 watch. I can wear it every day to enjoy my love for the 928 & show it to others. And Seiko makes a very good watch. You don't know what you are speaking of. James seemed fine with the design after it was pretty well finalized. I imagine knowing James & his love for the 928, he'll buy one of these watches(maybe two). If you don't want the watch, then don't buy one. You can stop looking down your nose at the rest of us, and take your elitist & trouble making views somewhere else on this one.
