Default Bosch WR7DC vs WR7DC+

Hi,

It's getting more dificult to find the original and recommended Bosch WR7DC for my MY.
I still have 8 in new condition, for the next change, but that's it!
However, it seems easy to find those WR7DC+ and, in most cases, they are cheaper.
Does the + signal means some considerable difference or they are basically the same and it's ok to use them?

Thanks

Regards

Ricardo,
When I changed my plugs recently, I called Roger for them. He said that the (+'s) are the preferred at present. Maybe he, or another, will chime in on the specifics.

WR7DC+ is the Bosch replacement for the WR7DC which as far as I know are no longer made.
Even the Porsche number refers to WR7DC+ - selling them for a number of years with zero issues.

Craig and Roger, thanks for the info!
As my Owner's Manual recommends the WR7DC only, it's good to know the "+" is a direct replacement.

Hi Francesco,

Yes, I learned here they are the direct replacement.
This store in UK "The Green Spark Plug" offers both models and there is a £1 difference from the old to the new model. It's about €10 in the set of 8, it's not a big amount (if we compare the price of certain parts for the 928....) but if they do exactly the same job why pay more?
You can see the comparison in the attachement.

I bought the dc because I asked the man of the shop for the DC, not the DC+....I thought the shop man came back with DC+,or beru /NGK DENSO equivalent(usual in Italy), but he had still the DC....
Afetr a little research, I discovered that a lot of spare parts specialist here sell thos e2 kind of spark plugs at the same price, if in stock.
next time I think I will be forced to buy DC+....

Default More on spark plugs

Hi to previous posters,

New to the community as I have just purchased a 1985 Porsche 928S and need some advise. Car had been idle for a couple of years and would not start. Got it started and noticed the car was misfiring so thought I would start by changing the plugs. The ones referred to in the manual are no longer available but I purchase 8 Bosch WR 7 DC+ plugs and was about to install. Pulled the first plug in the car and it is a Bosch WR 7 DTC so it got me wondering, which are the correct plugs? Called Bosch and they referred me to Porsche, who referred me to a dealer who wanted $13 per plug and would only tell me it was a Bosch plug. Trying to do all the work I can to keep expenses down so any feedback or advise greatly appreciated

Hi Frank, and welcome to Rennlist! You'll get a few thinly-veiled demands for some background and !PICS! of your car, as we all live vicariously through the experiences of others. You'll also find here a group of friends who are focused on helping you be be successful in your 928 efforts.

To your question, the WR7DC+ are the recommended plug for your car.

If you haven't already done so, budget some time to cruise through the "new visitors" thread in the sticky section at the top of the first forum page. Lots of good guidance on both what-to-do and resources that will get you going. Lots of great support in your part of the country too, if you find yourself in a bind over something.

We have several parts purveyors who you can contact not least of which Roger in post 3 above.

They know and will have in stock the bits and pieces you need and if they do not, then nobody does.

The plus (+) tells you that the spark plug electrode has been changed to have a "yttrium-enhanced copper core" for longer life.

All the other "important" identifiers (in the "WR7DC") remained the same.
The two spark plugs are virtually identical and interchange.

Welcome.

I would very strongly suggest not going through the dealer. Ever.
Somewhat like the Harley crowd, some of us refer to the building with the logo on it as the 'stealership'.

Have you read the 'New Visitor' sticky thread? It's at the top of the forum. Chock full of good info that you should know. One of those things is the 'trusted vendors'. Places that go to significant effort to source parts for reasonable prices (or as reasonable as they can be).

One of those is Roger Tyson (ROG100 above). He runs 928s R Us. He carries just about everything for these cars (and others - I get much of my 944 & Cayenne stuff from him). I just looked on his site and he carries the '7' plug for $3. You can order off the site, but the best way is to pick up the phone and call. He's a very pleasant gentleman who truly knows & loves these cars. Anytime I call, I usually budget an extra 15 minutes or so to just chat about the car.

And, yeah, as Dr Bob alluded to...

THIS...
