928s Suspension Question

928s Suspension Question
Hi everyone, a quick question. Im still trying to get my 1986.5 928s through compliance and its stumbled at a question of whether the adjustable suspension is stock. I know it is stock as its got the same set up as my S4 ( being an S2 ) but Ive trawled everywhere to find an official Porsche write up that its stock. The WSM shows it but its a bit ambiguous as it favours the front suspension descriptions and I cant see it from the diagrams. Can anyone point me in the right direction here please, it seems such a stupid question sorry.
Cheers

Hey AL,
This could help. It's the adjustable nut for front suspension off a Porsche web site, Porsche 928 part number and link:
https://content.us.porsche.com/prod/...25849A004AC5E1
If you need a reference to rear suspension:
Hope it helps,
Dick

Hi Al
Clearly shown on PET
rear - 502-00
front - 402-06
I am sure someone can identify chassis number range too. I have it on WPOZZZ92ZGS840480 for reference

Al,
PET being an official Porsche document ought to be sufficient but I am surprised the local authorities are concerned about such in your neck of the woods- I may be wrong but in the UK I do not think the local authorities give a toss for vehicles that are considered classic- i.e. over 25 years of age. As I recall in the UK they do not pay road tax on such albeit they still need their MOT certificate. Maybe one of the UK chaps can clarify on that not that it is particularly relevant in your case.

UK road tax and MOT exempt for cars over 40 yrs in the UK. Agree with Fred, can't see why you should have a problem getting car on the road in the UK unless substantially altered, which to my mind wouldn't include change suspension to adjustable..

Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for your help. I think its just because its a re compliance issuer as it hasnt been anywhere in 17+ years and the rego lapsed. Its checked back to original specs to make sure it hasn't been tinkered with. ironically, in NZ, once its through, you can do what you want to it and even drive around with no insurance. the most ironic thing is that emissions are such a bit problem but when is been done and its complied then there are no emission tests, just a visual. seriously ??, hence why I have no cats on either of my 928. Anyway, I just play the game, pay the money and I get another 928 back on the road !!! yay !
Thanks.

Finally...
The 1986 S2 is road legal again, a celebratory burnout was thwarted by the rain but, after an hour of feeling like I was watching childbirth again, I got the tick of approval and the last warrant of fitness sticker from 2003 was removed and a new one replaced it. The best news I could have had today. The info on suspension did the trick thank you.
now the real tinkering starts....
cheers

Well done.
You are someway ahead of me, my S2's engine and suspension have been done but not fitted. Yet to reassemble torque tube and reseal gearbox..off the road for 10 years and counting...

Glad is back out to get on the road
A word of advice,
doing burnouts does no favors for the transmission or diff,or drive shaft clamps or clutch disc splines
I had a customer crack his trans case and the 90 wt leaked out after doing a few doughnuts in a parking lot.
Spinning one wheel can weld the spider gears if its been done long enough

Burnout
Yes, I know. Burnouts are fun but damaging. It was more of a rapid start kinda thing than a donut. Anyway, rain stopped play and the moment has passed. Sensible head back on. 😁

i just tried looking for it on Netflix, then YouTube but it’s not there.... I did stumble on an old episode of the Wombles though, ahhhh happy days,
the 1986 goes in for paint correction, ceramic paint protection and tints tomorrow. A real treat for a clever little car !!! Hopefully it will join the S4 back in the garage by the weekend to await its next box of bits from Roger, I’m very excited.

Hi Fred, I’ve heard of it but alas no, I haven’t, but why am I getting the distinct feeling I’m missing out on a crucial piece of important information relating to my current situation ?

"Morgan" is a cult British comedy that doubtless would go down well in your part of the world. It is about a working class chap who resorts to looney tune stunts to win back the affections of his estranged snobby upper class wife played by a young Vanessa Redgrave. Morgan thinks that he is perfectly normal whilst others see him as someone in need of treatment. Anyone who owns a 928 has to have a bit of "Morgan" in him and the degree of lunacy arguably increases as an exponential function with additional purchases as in 1=1, 2=4, 3=9 etc etc. I reckon owning two 928's is borderline lunacy - three definitely so- clearly you are on the slippery slope to the asylum!
They're coming to take you away ha ha!
