As the old saying goes Matt " The Difference is in the Detail " and like those roofers , you,re starting to nail it now ! just the Porsche decal on the hood defines it so much, I like it all. The door mirrors do need some work, so as not to look like they,ve just been stuck on ?..,During the seventies there was a Ford racing series in Europe, amongst which were cars like the superb Cologne racing Capri,s, they were fitted with the same design shell as the mirrors you have chosen, but where they differed was that they sat on a black base that made the mirrors sit level, basically your style mirror only sat on a plnth.
Ive searched all over but cant find a picture to show you ?

Now how about those wheels in orange with a not too highly polished rim ?

Looking/sounding great, keep up the good work !

9two8 and Docmirror, thanks great advice as always. Will look into the wheel idea Ken and Doc very interesting idea for the doors.

The power steering delete is really great. It is very nice once enough fluid is removed from the rack. I am very pleased.

I will start the mirror bases tomorrow when i go to the home i am renovating (wood tools there)

Will make them in balsa and reinforce them with fiberglass and spray gel coat to finish them.

The mirror bases will utilize the stock 'flag' mirror rubber-like gasket btwn it and the door. I think that will be a nice touch.

I also will have a large 928 mirror image printed in orange to be set on the front bumper cover (so they see me coming in their rear view!) like an ambulance

I will also build a deep chin spoiler and mount a central oil cooler. I think the chin spoiler would look nice painted body color. It will be 2 parts, (a lower vertical piece not drawn)
I will ask for oil cooler plumbing advice when the time comes..

Will be very busy changing the springs and exhaust manifolds this January

Glad I could inspire something! Also keep in mind with those 911 singer's that they are all fiberglass now too. That is a log of work in and of itself. They talked about taking $3000 to get the intake to look pretty... That is a lot of money for a strip and recoat/powdercoat of sorts.

Brad, thanks again. But the whole car is not fiberglass.

What is:
The fiberglass front fenders, trunk&engine lids, front and rear valences have been around for decades with many good manufacturers making them. They are not that expensive either.

I had them on my IROC 911.

911 stock steel fenders and lids etc, are heavy gauge anvils.

Not light like our superior 928s.

My prototype RS project has turned out to be very rewarding in that the car is very exciting to look at (in person, my camera lens sucks) and drive now.

I haven't even spent $10k, including buying the $5000 low mile example.

To me, this is the Porsche hobby.

It's not spending $350,000 on the gussied-up 964 Singer 911.

For that money buy a new GT3 RSR.

For that money I could buy a new car, house, car lift... or 2, and a few 928s with the cash left over to restore all of them! Not sure what all they are doing to raise the cost that high as they don't go into much detail. But it is certainly a nice looking and running car.

The GTS mirrors have a base that might work better with those mirros. The base is more arerodynamic and the base gasket is more triagle shaped.

I wish i knew this before. Have to make the bases now as i've drilled. Thanks though. I don't want to have extra drill holes in the doors.

Ken, i will look at orienting my RSR mirrors this way on the mounts i make. So you did in fact help. Thanks!

Here it is. I like the Gotti wheels. Those mirrors would have worked perfect and saved a lot of work. Oh well.

Made these mirror mounts today very quickly. May go with a different design though.

The footprint (base) of the mirror mount is the same shape as the flag mirror base. weight: 1.0 oz.

Looking at other mirror options as well. May use the mirrors the 1984 Daytona Lightweight and the Porsche 956 used at that years 24 hour.

Taking a posting hiatus.

I haven't seen this thread in a while. Judging by your avatar, you're just about finished if not already! Looks beautiful and I love the stripe on the roof!
