My 11 year old Son has a very good eye and isn't afraid to point out my work that's not up to par. He was right as usual and some trim came off before the door cards are installed.
I am going to use my original door cards, they are in such good condition.
Silly not to. They look great and are ready for installation. In looking at the door interior especially the top door frame, leaving off the o.e. trim looks lousy.
So i decided to keep adding luxury and re-install the original door cards in their entirety.
Whats another 10 lbs when the car is already lite enough.
I am improving the door lexan design to be a 2 piece setup per side. The primary or #1 will be fixed in place and have a aluminum edge to bow out the lexan and deflect air.
The second piece will secure to it. Ventilation will always be present as part #1 will have a radius to deflect air while #2 will not and remain flat.

I'm glad i took my Son's advice, the door opening trim and locks look photo ready.
I am pleased with the new door lexan design, it looks better and won't feel confining. Will update with more pics when finished.
I've been giving the exterior graphics a bit of thought lately,
the car needs a breakup of the gulf blue paint.
With the vinyl, I'd like to call attention to the Daytona lightweight racer of '84
as well as the French 928S LeMans entry. I may even go with one side exhaust
pipe like that car to save more weight (duel pipes are not needed as i had to add restriction at ea tip anyway)
I have a simplified and very lite setup for the kids to ride in the RS using the stock rear leather seat parts. These just drop and snap in for the back padding.

I will be reconditioning my half shafts and installing my adjustable Konis this week. I won't bore you Guys with that stuff as you are all familiar with these tasks..

Roger's lower/outer door seals are great!
New door window scrapers are in (Thanks Roger!!) These reproduction extrusions are great. They install easily and seal perfectly.
Also the primary door lexan pieces are in.
The edge on the lexan serves as a wind deflector
and also creates the slight radius of the o.e. glass while giving it strength.
The edge profile is similar to the original S rear spoiler.
It's tough to photograph.

Interior about done, half shafts reconditioned and installed (with help from my new cast iron parts washer)
and the paint is curing on my front S4 & rear springs, New adjustable KONIs going in tomorrow. I'm impressed with these.
Haven't decided on seats yet, old 930 seats went back in. They weigh 33 lbs each, for comp, my manual 928 seat weighs 35.
I finally went for the GULF ORANGE Phonedials.
The lighter color really made a big difference as many of you suggested.
I realized that black hides the 'dial' openings. (duh) I think they will look great.
I stripped them down completely and etch primered them first.
The 928 RS will be lower and its rears spaced out to fill the wells.
Doing the exhaust over this week. Single outlet/'85-86 manifolds..

As you said it is a journey.. ditto on your 928SC

I do like them (KONIs) they adjust very nice (but who would adjust them in the middle some where?) Seems they will dampen nicely. The original Boge are shot.
Re Springs: I didn't cut the front springs, Mark Anderson advised using later S4 springs. He said they would lower the front about an inch.
I guess we will find out in about 100 miles after they are installed. I'm amazed at how long the front end takes to settle in these Porsches..

I just went out and untaped them, the color seems better for the car as many of you insisted it would.
I really wanted the make the Phondials work because they are such an iconic 928 wheel.
These are 7x16 fronts and 8 x 16 rears off a 951 owned by a Porsche Mechanic in NJ.
They are very light (17 lbs on the larger rears iirc) i found this out on the 944/951 forums.
I may after a while buy a set of orange OZ racing wheels (also 17 lbs) i have had my eye on though.
Anyway, i'm having more fun now wrenching, i'm a bit tired of painting, but wanted to see how the Gulf Orange wheels would look.
The paint guy made an educated guess on the orange shade.
I'm curious to get a weight (with full interior) once the '85-'86 exhaust manifolds are in as they must be lighter than the cast units.
It dropped weight a little here and there as i did the interior (alarm brain and more wiring trimming, ac evaporator (7 lbs) and other small bits)
so with the exhaust i am hoping the net result will be that not much was added back. It will be much quieter and comfortable.
If still around 2700 lbs., that would be 400 pounds lighter than a Porsche Cayman S.
And with all that torque for a Porsche built in '83 and its advanced
suspension, what a great driver it will be.
Lighter 996 GT3 seats will save another 38 lbs which is about what the interior panels weigh. But they do not adjust or tilt forward so not great for taking the Kids.
I'd like to highlight the sporting character of this 928 to maximum effect with the exterior graphics to counter the belief (by some)
that 928s aren't sporty like the 911s of the period.
These cars are pure machismo.

The map of the Le Mans track is not right for 1983 or 1984. There were no chicanes on the Mulsanne straight of this time.
By the way, the right name of this straight line is "Les Hunaudières".
I can scan you an official 1983 Le Mans sticker if you want.
It is a brand new one, unused. You just have to add a B, like Groupe B.

I took a few pics in the light, a few imperfections are noted (could use sanding and a recoat in places) anyway not to worry i can always get to this.
But i wanted to show the actual width of these 951 phonies.
pretty wide at rear, the o.a. width is 9" fronts: 7.75"

Mine are filthy.
I took a wire wheel to the passenger side rear links and hub and not much of a difference.
Also what is the best product to finish the calipers, is zinc chromate correct or where they black?
Everything that is cleaned and refinished makes the adjacent part look like ****e.
