Interesting read! Looks like you are doing a very good job and looking forward to seeing your project get finished.

Thanks Stuarto,

Been busy with a new Buddy.

But between playing fetch with him i did the power steering delete and i'm very pleased.

It will not be hard to live with at all and after driving it i prefer it without the power steering. Feels like my old Carrera.

The effort needed to turn the wheel while sitting is lesson'd as soon as the banjo bolts to the rack are opened. It doesn't feel as if it will damage anything.

I have always removed the rack shields on my Porsches. i don't feel they are necessary as only i lift the car. Early 911s didn't have them but my later '86 did.
They're very heavy to protect the rack from lifting error. Saves another 3 plus pounds.

Anyone know what the stock shift lever weighs, i forgot to weigh it before drilling.

An aluminum shifter would be shorter and better and lighter.

Thanks BC,

I just shortened mine with the angle grinder 1.25" and drilled the heck out of it.
I always try and work with what i've got rather than spend.

I've had bad experiences with short shift kits that change the linkage spacing like Carl's product (but not his) and have been hesitant ever since. Weltmeister's was one of these and had me stuck at least twice in the 911.

Anyway, I looked at Carl's billet aluminum shifter but saw nothing regarding it's weight or the spacing difference to achieve shorter throw.
If you have that info I'd be curious to see if it is lighter than 8 oz.

The "rack shield" as you describe it is more a structural part of the cross member it effectively boxes in a C channel stamped frame.... it does after all hold up a big lump of aluminum

That make sense now that you mention this.

It looked as unnecessary as the 911 shield. I assumed it was only to protect the rack. The shape follows

the steering gear casting..

You've never steered (haha) me wrong James, I will go back and re-install it. Thanks, I appreciate it. -Matt

Edit: the "shield" is called a reinforcement plate for the engine carrier in the WSM. Thanks again James.

Thank you Ken,

And very nice engine and bay you have there. I'd like to see more of that.

I am pretty confident that once i have the time to do the front bumper modification along with the power steering delete

i will see a number in the mid/high 2500 lb. range with full carpet, lighter seating, 928 RS door panels and some fuel (petrol)

Currently my 928 RS is over 400 lbs lighter than the new Cayman S and exactly 1000 lbs lighter than the Audi R8 V10 Plus. But
the R8 has 550 HP and 398 lb-ft of twist. The Cayman S 325HP and 272 lb- ft.

Ordering the later shorter springs form Mark A. today, look out Cayman owners!

Merry Christmas to you and your Family.

Cheers, -Matt

Wow, that's impressive, and a lot of hours to do for sure.

I wish there was something in a spray-can that could do that, LOL.

What color blue is your Euro '80 5-speed?

More pics of your Euro please. Exterior and interior, when you can.

It's beautiful Ken, i thought it might be minerva.

Great looking Porsche.

Thanks Rob,

All buttoned up below (reinforcement plate clean and installed. Only one accessory belt now which i like very much.

And less crap in the engine bay which i like. Once the system pressure is relieved the steering isn't bad. I prefer the PS gone and recommend it.
Just cut and crimp the lines a few inches from the banjo bolts. They are not sealed to allow air to escape.

Very Pleased with the power steering delete, trans-axle was cold but i took it out for a spin to take a video.

Runs great, such a fun car.

Merry Christmas.

you might be able to remove a few of those accessory pulleys from the crank. I'm enjoying this thread very much. Your car looks and sounds great!
