Happy to say that the 79 with it's practically "NEW" Euro S engine made the journey to Sharks in the Mountains and returned under its own power. This is the longest single trip and the most miles I have put on the car since I have owned it.
I have discovered a bit about the quirkiness of the driver window. It only works when the Alternator is engaged. Made for very small drama during the trip.
The funniest and most time consuming drama came when I ran out of gas on the way up there. The 79 is getting 50% of the fuel economy that the 82 got on the same trip/driving conditions.
The luckiest drama was when my fuel pump cover finally fell off the car. I was suffering reduced power on the interstate on the trip home and was pulling off an exit to investigate when a load clang and skidding sound followed me for about 20 yards.
It turns out it must have just been hanging on and the pump was draped down over the fixed edge putting a small bend in the soft lines. Still had enough gas to maintain speed but really lacked the performance to pass aggressively. (Just ask the old lady in the Honda Pilot)
I had my small hardware kit with me so other than dying from the heat and then having to lie on the hot pavement long enough to secure and tighten the panel it was no big deal.
My wife was a champ in the 82 and came to my rescue each time.
We usually have an adventure whenever we leave the house but figure in two 928's and a long trip and we ended up with one for the books.

Congrats! Sounds like you had a great "Adventure"!!
How'd you like the power with the EuroS motor? I always wanted to put one in my 79, but "other things" came up...

That might have more to do with driving style than power, lol.

Long time no post. Picked the 79 up last night from paint. It will cure at my house for two weeks and then get finished up. I am having 16" phone dials finished in the same black and will pick those up after the car is finished. The front windshield is oily and gross. I could barely see on the drive from the shop. Windex did nothing but move stuff around both inside and out. I have some Meguiars stuff on order and will spend more time with her this weekend.

Great to hear your nearing the finish line! We will definitely have to have another drive and decent on Larry's house again!

Thanks for the kind words men. Hope to get a front wiring harness and 170 amp Alternator soon. It will be fun to have all the goodies hooked up at the same time.

Finally have a day where the car and the parts are at the same address. Still waiting on color sand and polish but my painter was nice enough to deliver the car back to my house last night. He knew I was anxious to get started.
i had forgotten how low this car sits and had to break out the low profile jack for the lift bars.
If you are reading this thread then you know I am not a mechanic. I had hoped this would be straight forward and I could complete this in the 2-3 hours I have seen quoted elsewhere. Lol.
I have the bottom end complete. I had little luck trying to fish the new harness down from top so since I was installing a new alternator I thought I would start there and then moved to the starter.
Perhaps I can/will attached the new harness to the end of the old when pulling it up top. The narrow passage behind the driver side timing belt cover seems to be the pinch point when I tried fishing down. Maybe I will have better luck coming upwards.
That will be another day
