It is time to tackle some gremlins that prevent me from enjoying the car in the manner it was designed.

Headlight issues

Symptoms: Passenger light not illuminating
Motor gets in bind on way up, needs help to lift all the way. *fixed*
Motor cycles up and down without rest in either position. * fixed*

Work done thus far:
Discovered I was missing a relay (NLA) 928INT out of stock. Ron(Airtechvac) was kind enough to help me with this part.
Exchanged headlight dash switch with a known good switch from the 82. (no change)
checked all fuses associated with the headlight operation
replaced motor with one of unknown origin and this cured the cycling and the slow action.

Outstanding issues:
The motor works fine but I need to fine tune the start stop point of the arm. Full up is not quite full. strange angle.
The passenger side lamp is still out. (verified bulb function with 9V)

I have put this off because the car is so fun to drive. The engine performs better than it has in my 8 years of ownership. I just need to get this addressed before SITM and any nighttime driving.

I appreciate any specific advice. I have looked at the wiring diagrams but walk away more confused than at start.

Hi Brian!

Start at post #92 in my thread. It covers how I dealt with the headlights in the Red WItch. Not exactly what you are dealing with, but might be helpful:

No. I found the post(s) within Seth's thread that allow me to reposition the angle of lamps at on/off. I still have no light on passenger side. Thankfully the other issues were remedied with the replacement motor.

It is now. It must have just been corrosion. After using the relay that you had (thanks), changing the motor and verifying the bulb was good I was at a loss. As a last result before trying to trace the wiring and look for breaks I pulled all the fuses associated with the headlights and verified each one. While out I used a light coat of deoxit on all affected surfaces twice, one day apart. I also had the headlamp unplugged in the front and was all but soaking the female side. Again twice, one day apart.

I put everything back in last night and both lights worked as designed. I put her back together and cleaned up for a great morning drive today.

Next up, driver window.

Sweet! Glad you got your headlights working!

Which 928 are you bringing to SITM?

Both....... if I still have the 82. I have a For Sale sign in the window but have not really tried that hard. Sonja will enjoy the trip more if she has her own ride. She has no fear behind the wheel and I have a hard time keeping up with her most days.

That will be a great time I will be missing, as I will be in FL for a special "family" wedding event. I am really sorry to have to miss this special event! Best to all,
Dave

After following the instructions laid out here. https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...l#post14988945

I now have a fully functional driver window. The passenger is old and tired but works. I may decide to do that one also prior to SITM.

Maybe. It will certainly allow me to use the car on a hot summer day. I drove it last Saturday to a thing at prison and when I came back out several hours later the interior was VERY hot. It took forever to cool down with only the passenger window down.
