Krazy K..
funny that you have the most shunned "911" on any ever made even by your peers...
the headlights, cheap boxter interior parts.. IMS issues, interior trim quality problems...
A good friend had an 03 996.. nice car, i actually would have liked to own it.
he tried selling it as he has 4 kids, three in private school with my son, and one heading to college.
He bought the car brand new... he was horrified about what he was going to have to take for the car. in the teens....
Tons of broken interior trim, etc..
He decided to keep it and it turned into his daily driver.....
at 43K miles as he was coming down the high rise to the mainland the IMS went out...
He was quoted $22K for the repairs... ended up selling it for $4K...
Wish i would have know sooner, as i would have bought it and put a motor in it myself...
i laugh that a nice 996 from 200-2003 is selling for so low when a 993 or an 80's 911 are the same price or more.
all the P cars are great cars, each with it's own pros and cons...but they all are p cars nonetheless...
I love that the 928 is not loved by you guys....it keeps the more affordable. I also grin knowing that the 928 is SO much better of a car than the 911... better performance, more comfort, more convenient... just a phenomenal car...
My friend with the 996 was amazed that my 928 was as fast or faster than his 996.... and handled just as well... all this from a car 16 years older than his...
remember that the 928 was the first car porsche designed from the ground up... 100% porsche through and through...
it took them what, 40 years to get the bug to be a "supercar"... kudos to them for sticking to it....

I might just have an 06' or 07' 911 in a couple months.. because I'm going to need 4 seats per the wife and there's no way I'm driving a Panamera. The difference is I wave to other PCar drivers and I don't come onto a forum and denigrate what may be a choice for some, and the only way into the marque for others. A 911 is a nice DD.. but it's not something thats going to get any kudos.

Sadly most of these comments are an embarrassment......on BOTH sides... peoples choice in cars is based on emotions so not reasonable, factual, or rational.... it is what it is !!!

Agreed. Major waste of forum space, brain power, and time. It reflects badly on all involved. I've been cringing as I read the comments. I'm embarrassed for all of us.

On a Porsche club day out I had a 911 owner tell me after a very spirited cross country drive, "I never knew the 928 was that fast" he was genuinely surprised.

Can we just say that the car you drive says little about whether you are a good guy or a ********, and then just close this thread.

Hey, dont get upset with me. I didnt start this thread or post any bad commenst about a 928. That was all said by prior posters. The ONLY reason I even looked at this thread is because someone slammed my user name in a post. That 996 story Yardpro posted sounds just like the story posted in the 996 forum awhile back.
I knew a guy in the 80's who had a newer 928. He was the owner of Auto Trader magazine back then which was just a fairly small company at the time. He was a nice guy and it was a cool car as far as I can remember. Its in my top 10 of Porsche cars but well below a 2004 996 GT3 which is at the top and quite rare. I would love to have one even though its just a "lowly" 996.
There is a local non-running 928 just sitting that I have been asking a former co-worker to part with for years. Not sure what year the car is but I can post a pic of it.

where the lines get blurred.....
on the 911....
despite that it's just not the greatest thing to have all that junk metal hanging out the back.... and despite what has evolved into little more than automotive trickery over 13"~14" wide rear tires, i still think 911s offer a fairly credible package overall. still, i can't resist making fun of the bugwagons in jest.
the 944T....
a while back, i spent a few days doing an informal scan/survey of dead 944T engines, endless project failures, bankrupt enthusiasts, and dead avatars..... when it was over i had gone back 6 years...... i'd developed a pretty good feel for enthusiast experiences with the 968.... compared to 968 ownership, blown 944s aren't pretty. i don't make any friends saying it, but, i likened it to what a forum with the highest enthusiast turnover in automotive history might look like.
write up every kind of failure imaginable.... you see epic builds.... then wifey [boss] decides they need an addition put on.... wrencher sells the forty/fifty thousand dollar car for pennies, then a few days before or after pending sale, the engine quits in the parking lot at the package store [dig up the threads].
to be fair, Porsche knew where to draw the line on boost....
still, in my twisted way, i hold this half-sincere.... that flame/truth posts might save a few cars.
four or five every month. starts about like this......

One of my best friends and I, went out and drove around some back roads last week. His car is a 2010 Camaro SS, well long story short he was surprised that I could keep up with him, it surprised me as well. He kept asking what mods it had and I told him just chips and the boost turned up to 17#. Now we didn't do any drag races from a complete stop, just from 30-60mph. Well today he invited me over to do the same, the only problem is he now has this.....

Not fair, this thing left me way behind.
So now my plan is to find a way to at least make him sweat a little, I calculated that I need at least 350whp to maybe keep up.
being this is the precursor,
i give it about 18 months to run through the wash cycle.....
and be out of the Porsche 4 cylinder game.
unless you don't mind replacing cheap engines from the junk car swap meet forums,
or you have deep pockets....
but, whatever path you choose,
the end result will be about the same.
even more fun when your oil takes out the Z06 behind you.

we have so many engine choices [on this side of the pond] going up from basic to the salt flats...
it might be unfair to say, but what exactly is up with the Germans and Japs ?? in the inline four/five world, seems there's nothing out there in the way of a high-displacement go-to or crate engine that offers the convenience and power that enthusiasts need.
with 10s of thousands of good shells out there.... this ?

I think very rationally when I choose a car... that's why I have one of each... and love them both for what they are. Why should I have to choose one or the other... I shouldn't... that's a rational conclusion... no? (although my wife may not agree, at least she has a cool car too, which she loves - the .:R32)
