So how is this different than going and buying a brake caliper and not tightening the hose properly. Lose all braking and end up in a tree. So is the caliper manufacturer at fault?

Thats NOT how I read that. I think Tony is saying IF Roger PULLED his kit from the market then we will be left with Greg's or finding them ourselves. The hoses at most stores may not do the job safely.

Reading this thread makes me extra alert to frequently check the fuel lines on my 928.

Expensive/nice looking fuel lines are certainly not always the best, I have first hand experience.
Last year I replaced all rubber fuel lines of my 86.5 with pretty expensive, high PSI fuel/oil compatible hose from a specialized hydraulics shop.

After only 6(!) months and ~1500 miles all of the lines had developed serious cracks, probably due to the high temp under the bonnet, and it scared the crap out of me.

I replaced the lines with generic Gates 8mm multi fuel hose (also correct psi rating, and mounted with special high pressure clamps), and they show no sign of wear/cracks at all.

Will keep a close eye on it just to make sure ;-)

I believe the quote from Roger is being taken out of context.

This quote is from another thread.

Roger still sells the hose and clamps you need. But only to professional installers... I.E. Someone who is taking responsibility for the installation.

I go to Roger for a lot of things because I have a large family to take care of, and this hobby/addiction is not cheap... But I'm not so cheap as to take shortcuts like 6psi fuel line..

Roger offers the highest quality, most economical alternatives available.

Yes, that is not what I as trying to say.

I was just trying to say that a couple choices is good, especially if one of them has hose as good as Roger sells.

Having people source hose from the local auto parts store is going to be worse than having old hoses.

What we DO need is a COMPLETE fuel line instruction write up or video that would cover all weak link fuel lines on each specific model as these very year to year.
I agree wholeheartedly!

Roger - Please don't pull your kits! If it would help you sleep at night, include a disclaimer with the instructions & parts that the installation is solely the responsibility of the installer and that attention to correct installation is of paramount importance. There are those of us who take great care in maintaining our cars and we need to have your kit as one of the few alternatives available. I'd love to have Greg's hoses, but the cost is more than I can afford. When I win the lottery, then I'll buy everything Greg has to offer, and then some...

Most Auto parts stores carry fuel lines for older carburetor engines that experience very low fuel pressures, these will fall apart if installed in an Fuel injection system like our cars. Plus they are 30R7 and not very compatible with today's fuels so much that they start cracking from inside. I know because I had to change them every year on my 66 VW.

30R9 is the correct spec for fuel injection systems and compatible with today's fuel formula, which Roger sells...

And to answer Greg, once you install Rogers fuel lines on the barbs and for whatever reason try to remove the new line again; The barbs will damage the fuel line from inside. So if you do remove your new line off the barb for whatever reason, you NEED to use a fresh new line again. Its actually impossible to remove once installed, you have to cut the line to get it off, so no it will not just slide off.

Also, to install these lines you need to force the barb in the line all the way with no twisting motion. You should not try to screw the barb in, because again the barbs will damage inside the line, trying to twist the fuel line on the barbs will also damage it. I use a bit of lubrication on the barbs so that the line slides on easier. Its a very tight fit, and understand that most will try to get it on with twisting motions, they should not do this....

Gates multi-fuelhose 27085 SAE 30R9 is sold everywhere, rockauto seems to be the cheapest I have found.

GATES Part # 27085 Fuel Injection/MPI Hose - 5/16" x 10' (180 psi) $25.80

Again, I don't think Roger's quote is being understood. It's from a different thread. He still sells them to us. We are just accepting responsibility for their installation.... Roger, Please chime in and end the panic...

AGREED. It will increase the chances of a lot MORE fires in the future IMHO because of improper hoses being used.

After reading this thread -- I have ordered (or at least I am trying to order)
replacement fuel lines for my recently restored '82 Euro.

So to the PO -==- sorry for your loss. Hopefully there is some solace in knowing your inspiring
many of us to proactively address our fuel lines.

FWIW. I'll put the job to my mechanic. I trust him more than myself in these regards.

There is no indication whatsoever that the fire in my car was caused by the parts I installed or the iffy job I may have done. You can quote me on that. No one is holding anyone responsible.

There are many other parts that are responsible for the fuel system aside from the fuel lines which could cause this type of issue. For the benefit of others, reconsider your decision.
I agree with Ather.

This is important information.
