Good luck Sterling -I am sure you will be happy once you have a well engineered solution. All the parts are there!

Dude! Sorry to hear this. With these cars it certainly is a love-hate relationship. Hang in there...

Sterling, I'm down the street if you need an extra set of hands. Best of luck.

Is that from the crank gear?

Any idea what locked it up yet?

yes that is from the crank gear. I will be tinkering more tonight to see if I can find out more.... I have lots of work to do in the garage before I can get to the engine tho.

Wow...almost as if something else in the system wasn't turning and the crank just sheared a strip of the belt right off..
Can you manually turn the cam gears?

DUUUDE that's a total hard stop - look at how good the belt looks before and fter that. It must have stopped dead. Weird, because one would have expected a sudden stop like that to be nearly impossible, and cause damage elsewhere.

Have you popped off a valve cover yet? Does the oil pump rotate freely?

So, something locked the cam(s) or oil pump and the crank tore off 7-8 teeth. 7-8 teeth normally MIGHT be survivable, although you already said this is not so with Variocam.

I can't imagine anything other than a toothed roller would have stopped the belt dead like that. The interesting thing is, as Sterling says the crank gear is good, then why would IT kill the belt there and not the oil pump (if that is the culprit) ... Actually, this way the only possibllity is the cams - they have most traction.

Something in the top end locked up. Do you have a gear reduction high torque starter?

Looks like the belt stopped, and the crank kept going for several revolutions. I think the crank has the fewest engaged teeth, so its the weak point.

Which side is the fuzzed up part, tensioner?
