Damn Sterling, you got my number if you need it, use it.

Bill Ball 09-02-2011 11:02 PM

Wow! So, no warning - just "snap!"? Wow! :grr::banghead: :crying:

If you are pulling the motor you must have done a leakdown. If not, be hopeful. We are two-for-two locally. John in Folsom seized his water pump and stripped a dozen teeth while driving his 87 down the freeway and ended up with no damage. Same as yours, we could turn the crank and the cams didn't move. Charley recently skipped 7 teeth somehow in his GTS - no damage.

Sucks. Just on the other side of engine job today. Would have finished tomorrow but have to watch 4 kids this weekend. Just found this out.

WTF?

Mrmerlin 09-02-2011 11:28 PM

Sterling pull the dipstick see if there is metallics in the oil,
drip onto black cardboard look at the oil in the sun
Maybe a one of the oil seats came loose and caused a cam to seize
Still, a bummer,
please post some pictures

tell me about it..... The last time it ran, I drove around the block after reconnecting the AC compressor wire. Pulled it in the garage, and tried to start later no dice....

Merlin, I've seen you post that adivce many times, and I'm not sure what dripping oil on dark colored paper and looking at it in the sun will accomplish at this point.

Mike Simard 09-02-2011 11:41 PM

I'll be here for you if need help.

heinrich 09-02-2011 11:49 PM

**** I'm sorry Sterling!!

Bill Ball 09-02-2011 11:57 PM

So, do you see the timing belt through the view ports?

If not, why not pull the covers, string a new belt and check the leakdown before pulling the motor? You might have gotten lucky.
