You people are so cruel! Somebody ought to go by the house and make sure he's OK. After that many engine failures, he could be somewhat depressed. Have campus cops been known to eat their guns?

On second thought, maybe someone should go be the house and make sure his wife doesn't have a gun.

Negative, the buffer was sucked into the engine right behind the valve.

And I thought the Widow had just eaten one of those moving- chicane Miatas and sh*t it out its tail pipe.

Did the valve head break off and the stem is still being held by the retainers, or did the valve let go at the retainers?

Dunno. Hav'nt gotten that far in to it yet there is a bunch of sharpnel in the hole where # 8 piston used to be. More focoused on getting the replacement motor in and running at the moment but I will post the autopsy photos

Valve failure on a 928 engine isn't very common....unless the new "lower quality" replacement TRW valves are used (read: Hecho in China).

Unless that engine was equipped with replacement valves, I'd keep looking through the pieces for more information.

So, what happened! Im lost. Did all of this happen this trip, or the blown engine last trip, or what!!

all that oil restrictor stuff. thats the problem. oil cant get down to the pan, as well as it being stuffed in the heads!

and since when does a dropped valve turn into hydrogen bomb for the lower end???? I guess, i mean over rev bent valve. i guess if the valve drops, it gets in the combustion chamber, stops the piston short, bends the rod, or damages the rod bearing, it seizes, and then bamb????? there are 2 retainer rings on the valve. how in the heck can it drop??? over rev just floats the darn thing.

So, it was over rev??? there is a way to reduce the chance of this. it has to do with the orientation of the gear shift lever you align it so you can barely get into 1st and reverse. this way, 4th never gets confused with 2nd. EVER!!
