Reply to jeff. I tried to turn engine over with a breaker bar and it wouldnot budge . The motor had good oil pressure and no overheating. I replaced timing belt, water pump, not more then 50 miles.TT was replaced also.
I drove my new to me 86.5 5 speed one owner 70,000 mile S3 up to Canada to introduce to Colin.
Within one hour the twin clutch was out and flywheel off to machine shop. Colin then did his magic to the intermediate plate and throw out bearing.
He then addressed small leak back at fuel pump.
Next was check out the timing belt which had new cam gears and belt.
Removed the cruise control board and soldered 100 plus points.
Next he removed cold start valve and cleaned.
Next was to remove the MAF and ordered a rebuilt from John Speake.
He then removed all the UNGO alarm system and the hardware for old radar detector. This was a lot of crap to do right.
To top it off he shortened my shifter pattern and height.
Did the fresh oil and filter and I think that is it.
It was a great drive home and enjoyed watching him perform so efficiently.
Thank you Colin and Michael.
Question, where is the cold start valve on the S3? Honestly I've been all over the intake and don't remember coming across one? I'm not saying I'm not blind as a bat...which is why I'm asking
Uncovered the car for the first time in a few weeks, drove it to work on a beautiful 70 degree morning with the roof open and the windows down ! That always reminds me why I like this car so much ..
Received a box of filters from Jeannie @ 928gt! Found out that after draining ALL the fluids, there is still enough left in the gearbox to cover me and the floor.
After vacuuming out the three months worth of cigar ashes from the rear hatch area and thinking I'd driven old blacky her last time this year...decided to drive her one more time, granted, cigar free.
Ended on a good note with spirited driving amongst full volume tunes, AC/DC -back in black, then Ted's - stranglehold.
Rain has moved in for the next few days...and Nov. 1st the insurance comes off.
Finally installed the Porsche Sports Steering Wheel. It went smoother than expected, but the horn still does not sound as prior to switching from the Porsche RS. Not the relay b/c switching it with the HVAC relay continues to be silent. Good contact in the back of the hub. Hmmmm.....

Jeremy, I love the steering wheel. I soaked it in Leather Honey overnight then wiped off excess today prior to driving the car to a meeting at work. The wheel is just about perfect in size, thickness, and feel of the leather in my hands. Surprisingly, compared to my prior wheel, RS, this wheel makes turning easier with less effort. Love it. I bought it on eBay and it came with hub and all the fasteners.
Kevin, the shift **** came with the car when I bought it, so I don't know where it came from, sorry.
Fitted two new rear hatch gas support struts ( sourced from Germany) seems like I can do this job blindfolded, done it so many times.., think this is the fourth set in twenty odd years now...Lesser cars seem to have gas struts that last much longer than 928 one,s ?
