I installed the lighted sill plates...well, plate... I only did the drivers side so far. It is much more red in person than in the pics too! Really like the look! Glad to have a non-broken sill plate too (thanks Mark Benton at The Nine Source for that!)

peaked into the cylinder head through an intake hole and saw sand sitting onto of one of the partially open valves
clearly I did not clean around the intake tubes as well as I thought.
Contemplating my next move.

Got things back together yeaterday after cam gear/TB/WP swap. It took me longer to install/properly route new spark plug wires than it did to time the cams (the WSM way - that training video is priceless for this job). It ran like crap, check eng light, and a tapping sound from #8. Looked for anything upplugged, then took that cam cover off, rechecked the cam timing - it was right on, inspected #8 (nothing found) reassembled then restarted... ran fine. Not sure what I did that was different.
Finally started flushing the coolant to swap the green stuff for G05... block plugs and all. Flushed it 3 times, I think once more will do the trick - it's pretty much clear, but it can't hurt. Must've had a big air bubble in there 2 out of 3 times... lot's of burping required. Lesson learned - don't fill the reservior all the way like the WSM says, because when that air bubble heats up and expands, it makes it overflow.

Bought a radiator to replace the one with a split hose neck on my 81, and some other parts to do a top end fuel line refresh. I've owned it from new, last replaced the fuel lines back in 1996, look like they are getting dried out and brittle again.

Replaced bulb in HVAC controller, confirmed other was out, new one lit when I installed, but I still can not see the slides light up (maybe not dark enough out yet). But good news ! It seems that when I used to have heat blow by when I had slide all the way to cold that it has now been remedied. I adjusted the round gear (potentiometer) to be all the way adjusted to maximum when slide all the way to cold, it seems it was not maxed either way as was when I disassembled. Would this be the case, I have not read about that as a fix for vent blowing hot air when on full cold?

From what I can tell, the potentiometer should read circa 140ohms at lowest setting (18 degrees C on my metric AC units), after having a similar problem, and measuring a couple of units that showed no signs of being opened before. The symptoms are on full cold it blasts icy air, but just off that the microswitch override isn't active and it blows too warm.

Looked at it. Pointed it out in the garage to a client who asked.. Thought about washing it but too late in the day when I finally decided. It's supposed to rain the next several days anyway. I may have to drive it Sunday in the rain. Resistance is futile...

Still wrestling with a caster issue on front alignment. More work on that tomorrow.

Read a few threads where MK "contributed", trying to decide if the 'ignore' feature will be adequate protection from outgassing. I may take a RL holiday and see if the symptoms diminish.
