It is with a very sad heart I have to announce that I will need to sell my cherished 928GT project.

Due to complications following a Covid booster shot, I have been living with decreased vision for several months which forced me to stop flying.

With two daughters in college, and my flying career likely on hold for quite some time, there is no other choice financially than to sell this car.
At this point, I am not sure of what a reasonable price would be, but for those that have followed my thread, and those that have seen the car in person, I think they can appreciate the amount put into this project.

It would take very little work to make this car fully functional. All the fuel lines, brake lines, brakes and suspension are installed. It currently has a 928Motorsports rear transmission crossmember for a Corvette 6-speed transmission but can easily be reverted back to a stock 928 transmission.
No cuts or modifications to the body has been done, other than the installation of GTS fenders and non-sunroof panel (sunroof delete).
Interior silver knit carpeting is new, as are brake lines, fuel pump and filter. All suspension rubber parts (other than the weisach link) have been replaced with new (new upper A-arms, 928Intl refurbished lower A-arms etc).
Electrically it has a Infinitybox multiplexing electrical system which can easily be removed and stock body electrical harnesses installed if needed.
GTS front brakes, new EBC pads, Fikse FM10 18" wheels, Bilstein/Hypercoil suspension with revolved shocks for the spring rate etc.
New windshield and door glass installed as well, rear quarter and hatch glass is original. All new door and window seals.

I will put an official "for sale" post on Rennlist in a few days with all the parts listed, but until then, if anyone has the knowledge or educated opinion of what a reasonable listing price would be, please feel free to PM me.

Cheers!
Carl

Carl sorry to hear of your health issues...I am happy to report I have seen this project in person, all of the work is beyond exceptional with no expense spared. Very sad that carl will not be finishing this unique project.

So sorry to hear this. This was going to be the finest 928 in existence once completed.

Carl, sorry to hear about your vision problems.
It is sad that so many started 928 projects never come to an end.
I know you find your Tesla superior.
Personally, on ideological grounds, I will never get myself a vehicle with an electric engine nor a diesel engine.
I have had four covid shots but luckily no side effects.
It's time for the fifth one later this fall.

Very sad to see this. This thread is the last subscription I have running here at Rennlist after selling my 928 years ago. I just re-read the entire thing again. Almost heatbreaking to see the girls you say are now in college as just kids in the earlier pics. I wish I had the means to acquire the project myself.

So sorry to hear of your past and unknown future vision issues Carl. It has been fascinating to 'ride along' in your pursuit of your dream 928. I hope someone will pick up the keys and complete the journey.

Sorry to hear this, Carl. You were such a HUGE help for me when I was finishing up Tony's car. I am so very thankful for that. I really hope that things get better for you soon.

I wish I could give you an idea on a value for your car but these modified ones are always hard to determine. You could always submit it to BAT as a project but probably best to test the waters here first. I would think there is someone out there that would love to have it in its current state. It's an outstanding build.

General note to everyone. I haven't seen this car but I did work on a car that Carl had done extensive work to. His attention to detail and quality of work was the best I have ever seen. That is what you can expect with this car.

Good luck Carl.
Hope you'll find the right buyer for your car.
That Covid thing realy sucks...
Take good care of your self and hope your situation will improve.

Thank you all for the kind and encouraging words, it truly touches my heart.

Life happens, we learn (hopefully), we adjust and we grow.
I'm in the process of gathering all the parts list and I'll post a spreadsheet along with other details in a few days.

Thanks again to everyone, not only for the encouraging words, but to all that have provided input and help during this project. Truly a great bunch of 928 folks!

Cheers,
Carl

Hey Carl, I hope your situation and health has improved over the last few months. Any update on what you are going to do with the car?

Thank you,
The eyes have "stabilized" and not gotten worse so that is a positive sign. Some days are better than others so I feel positive.
The logical thing to do is to sell the car but emotionally it is hard to let it go. I have been procrastinating with actually listing it for sale for that reason
If you, or if you know of someone interested, feel free to PM me.

Cheers!
Carl

Carl, hope your eyes have gotten better or are now like they were before.

Have you decided whether or not to list the car for sale? Could be the ultimate 928!

But I am not sure that my prototype-builder (or most of us, for that matter) has the experience & expertise to finish something like this.

What all needs to be done to have a driveable car?

Thanks,

MN

Hi MN,

The eyes are still fluctuating. I had a couple of good weeks, but the last few days the inflammation and redness has returned. A bit frustrating but c'est la vie!

Regarding the mechanics of the car, I guess one can think of it as three potential paths if one wants to retain a combustion engine(or a combination of the three):
1 - Make it a "pure" 928 (928 engine and 928 transmission)
2 - Make an "near pure" 928 (928 engine with a Corvette transmission)
3 - Make a full LS engine/Corvette transmission conversion

In all of the cases above, the car already has the fuel tank and new pump installed (044 with upgraded strainer), upgraded pump wiring, fuel lines installed, brake lines installed, ABS unit and controller installed.
The suspension has all new rubber bushings everywhere (except 928 331 085 00 rocker bars, which were NA when suspension was rebuilt), rebuilt lower A-arms, new upper A-arms, re-valved Bilstein shocks with Hypercoil springs.
All new wheel bearings, new brake pads, new rear rotors, front GTS brake upgrade (have about 2,500 miles on front rotors). New ball joints and steering arms. New hand brake cables and new upgraded main battery cable
The rear cross member is the 928Motorsports Corvette style cross member. If a stock 928 transmission is to be used it needs to be swapped out.
The windshield is new as is the driver and passenger side windows. Rear hatch glass and quarter glass is original and polished.
All new door seals and window seals throughout.
The tires are old so need to be replaced, the Fikse FM10 (18") rims are in good condition (will need a polish to remove water spots), with one rear rim having some cosmetic damaged on the surface from a tie-down buckle during transport.
The steering rack was rebuilt many years ago, so it will most likely need a rebuild. The AC condenser and receiver/dryer are brand new. The radiator is an older Devek unit so should be replaced.
The front and rear sway bars are Dave Robert's (928 Specialist) first run parts, so they have the "CORRECT" bend on the front sway bar.
All the exterior lighting is LED.

So mechanically, it is ready to drop an engine and transmission in, and with stock 928 harnesses installed, it would not take much time or expense to have it running. I'd guess a month or two if someone worked on it during weekends only.

Regarding interior, all speaker wiring is new and upgraded, and it has 2 amplifiers (4-way and a 2-way for subwoofers), it has new modern insulation, new Silverknit carpets.
Door panels and rear interior quarter panels have been stripped down so they need recovering. All carpet pieces are included and many interior parts are already covered in new carpet, and several yards of extra carpet as well.
It needs seats, as I unloaded those some years ago with the intent of installing 997 style front seats and doing a rear seat delete.
The dash is in good condition with 2 small cracks near defroster vents. My plan was to have it recovered in leather. Instrument pod has some cracks on top but that was also planned to be repaired and recovered along with dash and center console.
Front door arm rests have the typical cracked plastic around the mounting points and should be replaced or reinforced (on hand but not installed yet)

Regarding the electrics of the car, there are two options:
1 - Utilize the installed Infinitybox system (about 90% programmed at this point)
2 - Remove the Infinitybox system and drop in the harnesses from a stock 928

The benefit of keeping the Infinitybox system is that it can be programmed to behave exactly the way you want. And it is lighter by nearly 50%, with much simpler troubleshooting if something goes wrong. And it is fresh modern wiring.
The stock 928 harness may be the more "comfortable" route to go for someone who is not comfortable with a multi-plexing electrical system. And since it is a "one-off" system, the owner or associated mechanic needs to be versed in it.
By going back to a stock 928 harness one has complete reference from the WSM. But unless one gets "new" rebuilt harnesses, a used harness is OLD and in some areas slightly undersized.

I think 1-2 months of weekend work provided the parts are on hand is very realistic. Hope that helps somewhat? Feel free to PM me if you need more info.

Cheers and take care,
Carl

Thank you for your detailed reply.

IMO, nothing for the faint hearted or the weak walleted.

May make more commercial sense for you to finish this and sell a drivable car.
