J, It would be nice to get this 928 back sooner than later. At this point now and as before, just want to get it back correct, and hopefully without any issues down the road. T
More importantly, after spot welding panels, would recommend not to use the 3M Panel Bond product as a filler, and to use the Metal-2-Metal for filler at this time. Don't want anyone else to have to go through this. It appeared there was an expand and shrinkage problem that was detected after the car was buffed. Hardly noticeable, but enough to stop and redo. T
I caught this one with my ducts/vents for the bonnet and guards, bought the panel bond borrowed the V expensive 3M gun applied it and then did the bog work with Wurth alloy filler. However something got my thinking about temperatures. I then looked up the max operating temp of the panel bond. It is only 85 c. On a hot day and with the engine running how hot is the bonnet going to get? The guards will have coolers behind them so they will get hot too.
I put a butane torch on the panel bond and sure enough it loses strength very easily and the parts come away. This would have been a disaster, a lot of expensive paint and time rubbing the primer waiting for everything to sink back etc. I did a search and others had had the same trouble, the surface under the paint changing with heat.
So I am going with JB Weld good enough for another 200 c more than the panel bond. Maybe the panel bond has other properties but these mods are not structural and JB Weld is not weak stuff anyway. I don't need the fancy gun, just a paddle pop stick. I will then use the alloy filler that has the right expansion rate for alloy panels. Talk about a trap for young players!

P.S maybe what got me thinking about glue temperatures was the research into a carbon fiber glue for the roof panel, I will look up what temp that goes to jelly as soon as I can, although a different brand; Valvoline. I can't imagine using 3M panel bond on a black car.
Been known to drive at speeds above 120 and the wing does supposedly perform a function at these speeds. It also does look somewhat menacing as someone on RL stated earlier. Wing stays, it's about the only thing that hasn't been deleted. T

FYI-It's looking like the unveiling of the "Just Beachy" GTS will be this weekend at the 1st Annual 3rd Coast Spring Fling, so come on down. I think there is a room or two still available at The Light House Inn. T
