Wet salt + wind = probably done for this meet.

Looks like he's a fair ways from the "class" record....and tying more than one mile together, at a time, seems to be an issue.

Might be a convenient time to go home.
I would agree with Greg. With the rain, wet salt and other stuff, take what you got and come back again for another shot later.

Now you have actual run data, you can figure out what you need to do and come back and spank the record.

so all the weight he put in the car wont effect the terminal velocity...just time to get to terminal velocity(acceleration)........so his theoretical top mph with all things perfect , should be doable..right???

I still hope the weather clears up so he can break the record!!! this year.

good luck

Key words...."with all things perfect " .... seldom if ever occurs in the real world.

I have to say that I am impressed that he broke the 200 mph.
After having talked to a few here and around off line, Carl had a lot that could (and still could) go wrong. With an experimental car and engine, dealers test for years but Carl has assembled this in a very short time, so there is lots of room for unwanted surprises.

I hope he gets to finish the runs to the point that he wants to.

Good luck and a safe drive home.

Brad

The latest from Carl:

"Winds are now like 45 MPH on the flats and all racing done. I went out midday when the crosswinds erred at 5 MPH and s gust pushed me around at 200 MPH. I saved it like driving in the snow in Wisconsin, but that's it for us. I STILL have not been able to use full throttle.because I can't get the power down. I think we will make some changes, come back next year and own this thing. "

The last guy I know that got one wore his almost 24/7 for weeks. It's not easy to get a record.

(see also post 314 below)- wasn't clear enough on this one

Given the club rules: "Break an existing record or established minimum over 200 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats and you will have qualified for membership in the exclusive Bonneville 200 MPH Club, joiningsome of the most distinguished names in auto racing......"
No red hat for Carl....since he did not establish a record for the class he was running and no impound or inspection.
Tough club to get into !

Didn't mean to imply that he got or would get in the club this year, but if he does at some point it will be the most expensive hat.
