This may be of some interest as it is blown but I suspect the motor in this car puts it in a different class to Carl's.

I read thats a Fuel car. They can run any fuel they want. I am staying in the Gas class, I have to run pump gas, and it has to be the pump gas they provide. 93 octane stuff. So they are in a different class than me.

Chevy. From the comments on the youtube page:
The 288 has a Big Block chevy motor 540cid. the class that the car runs in requires 500cid or bigger, Ferrari does not have a motor with that large of displacement. The chassis is all Ferrari and no other cars with a 94" wheel base have gone that fast.

I see. Is there something special about the 94" wheelbase?

Jim's right... the shorter the wheelbase the more go-kart-like and darty it gets. Look att he typical landspeed car and you will see the wheelbase is stretched for stability. Also, length tends to help aero (if its done right).

At least we will be running a Porsche engine in a Porsche chassis, not like this GTO you posted. Bonneville rules dont care, but other places I race (like the PCA) require the engine and the chassis to be from the same manufacturer.

With so much resistance pushing on the nose of the car and putting down the power with the rear wheels when the rears get out of line the back end tends to want to change places with the front end. I have been to the dry lake in Ca and found it quite interesting. Such creative engineering got to love it.

Default Preparation Update

Progress continues on the Bonneville build.

I post photos of the build and threads about what's happening several times a week here:

We ran 3 events this spring and summer with the big motor, de-tuned to 760 HP.

This allowed us to de-bug the drivetrain and test our engine oil control system. All good. I have a nice update to report on upper-engine oil control for the 32v 928 after Bonneville. Right now I have 5 racing hours on it and am not ready to report on it other than it looks very promising so far. After Bonneville, I will know more.

I am busy making the rear diffuser for the car now, and here are a few pics of the front chin splitter with supports in place for the air dam.

The 1200 lb front springs are in (900 pound in rear) and I have some 860 pounds of lead ballast waiting to be melted and poured into place. Parachute is mounted, and we are adding the second fire suppression system.

Lots to do.

At Bonneville, I will be posting to Facebook each result each day via my Droid. . Subscribe to our news thread by clicking "Like" and you will receive these up-to-the-minute reports on your phone or via email.

There is a special photo album just for Bonneville preparation with lots of pics and captions. Check it out!

Those are the supports for an aluminum cover panel that will be attached to the front of them.

That chin splitter is thick and way to heavy to be practical for anything else. It is currently 45mm off the ground, and when the vehicle is loaded with ballast and driver, it should settle in at 30mm if my calculations are right.
