Dads don't tend to be the best teachers to their male sons....the expectations (from each) can be tough to manage.

Add to that the huge amount of knowledge that I've accumulated about tiny details and special things that need to be done, and the task gets even bigger.

It takes me more than a year to train a mechanic to be able to do the more mundane things on a 928....while I continue to do the "higher tech" jobs, like engines and transmissions.

To be a true "specialist" in these cars is a very long, tough road. Like I've said all along, I have no idea how these "Factory Restoration Centers" are ever going to train people to be able to do these cars. Hell, most of the Factory Dealers couldn't fix them when they were brand new....and they had knowledge they could draw from at the Factory level. I still get cars in that have complaints left over from when the cars were under warranty that couldn't get fixed, back then.

Tough road, for anyone.

Wisdom, not easily acquired. (My sons are 54 and 56, and this is still true of our relationships.)

Hey Greg,
stumbled on this after reading through your restored thread.

How are your son and this car doing?

Hard to believe it’s been 10 yrs. I still remember reading through this at the time.
