Hello everyone,
here is a little update from my end of things.
This is a new version of the climate control faceplate. This one is more modern, sleek and uses magnetic switches instead of rotary encoders.
No moving parts and basically lifetime of service.
I kept the design simply, easy to gauge at a glance and straight forward to control.
The whole face is illuminated with the same fiber optic panel technology we have been using in the past. All the feedback is done through secondary LEDs which will add color and brilliance to the "on" state, lighting the numbers on the temp scale and the dots on the fan scale.
This will also be available in all the current finishes we have available for the window switches and the consoles, so, a perfect fit.
This panel will also be available as a standalone, to replace the factory AC control.
We might or might not include the red and blue LED on the temp scale. These are designed to let the user know when the limit switches have been triggered, so it could be useful, but it also clutters the display. So I am still on the fence about this one.
I do still have a bit of tweaking to do to it, but we will have a working demo for SITM
Thanks
Paul

Paul,
It looks good, but I think that I prefer the previous version with the two *****; although, I would be happy with either. Did you make this change for aesthetics, reliability, or to simplify the product by removing the rotary switches?

AGREED! Some things are better with physical *****, this is one of them. Kind of like when car stereo makers when knobless and then finally went back to ***** for basic functions like volume

More input:
Green for the center selection buttons. Not red..green = enabled.
Use yellow LED for the fan speed lights.
_really_ hoping for very small incremental changes in temperature adjust...the wifes asthma will throw a fit with 5d changes, 2d changes would be a good place to end up...its not so shocking of a shift.
I see "feet" "defrost" "recirculate" across the top
On the bottom, "A/C" "rear defrost" "A/C"...whats the second A/C selection?
No "mix" selection for up & down like OEM?
And..dang, a temp display you can switch between "Set" and "Ambient" temperature would just fill this up nicely.
Days like this, I wish I could draw what I think...im thinking.
The space just isnt..."filled" very much, the real-estate available just doesnt seem used enough.

Does this control allow six different fan speed settings vs. the original four?
Does the recirc button function same as on 90-95 cars (like "Max AC" on an American car) or does it just recirc only?
Apologies if these questions were already answered somewhere in the previous 40 pages ;-)

The degree of adjustment is controlled by the board and we are looking at the increments now.
The few elements and stark look is exactly what I was going for. The whole console is busy enough as it is.
This makes a much cleaner look, and it is a sturdier system. It also keeps the costs down, both for us and for you guys.

Betting the bottom right is for rear AC
IMHO would be AWESOME if an actual LED or LCD temp display could be used for the temp selecion and below the rows of stuff one for outside temp! Got the room it would seem!
Also, since will replace the AC button currently, need one for not only trip reset but also door locks...

Forgot to explain that the center vents are not represented in a selection, because they are always on.
Also, the functions are additive, not selective. So you can mix just as you please. You just can't turn the center vents off.

Is the space to barren, too many right angles/sqaures...to much or less of what, I dont know, but it has that "high dollar home stereo look that looks like it doesnt _do_ much emotion" to it.
NO OFFENSE at all, towards the people behind this..at all. Big wall, small painting kinda thing. I just cant place it.

We do have a version with an LCD temp display. It's just a lot more expensive.
This is the easy solution for those who just want to replace the factory control, or want to keep the costs down on the full center console with carputer.

What you are seeing here is just the AC control. This is what those who only want to replace the factory control would get.
This is just a rough representation of a design that is still being worked on. The colors of each LED is not set yet.
The degree of adjustment is controlled by the board and we are looking at the increments now.

the stark look, against a carputer install?
Here's a "fuller" look from the same genre..late 80s/early 90s, in my Supra.
Same space, but a 'full' design.
Of course, doesn't have to be mechanical buttons, but the layout is much more, IMHO, to the period design and would update the 70s style sliders in the car -now- without going too far towards modern minimalist.
I just dont see a broad space of minimalist co-existing peacefully next to a dash re-hab to carputer, touch screen, etc.
I think something like _that_ layout would fit much more at home in the flow of the rest of the dash panel, and be quite well at home, standing over a wildly wonderful modern carputer install.
(Of course, two dimentional, not push buttons)
The window switches panel is great as an implant into that space..little around it has to match it, or compete with it visually...and its a FULL space.
With the empty space..its like the same HVAC controller for a car that has a ton of other HVAC options that COULD be in that space, but not on this base model..and you have nothing to fill it.
And gosh Paul...please dont think I do not appreciate what you've done...just trying my best to get across, what it feels and communicates to me on the demand side of the product...that is all.
As it is..I would be more likely to leave the OEM HVAC panel over the carputer, than stark minimalist. (Happy thoughts to anyone that likes it however, I cant say enough that im not trying to be a downer)
Edit: Come to think of it..Toyota has that "Auto" button..where on some basic conditions, it knew where to put air based on int. temp, and the temperature you set the unit to achieve..and fan speeds to get there quickest based on the delta. That has _got_ to be stupid simple logic programming for people that do that.
Auto: Ambient internal temp = 95, setting is at 70. Fans full (level 4), A/C on, recirc, dash only output (User option for rear A/C)
Auto: Ambient internal temp = 45, setting is at 75. Low speed until coolant temp >70d, then fans full, floor on, full heat asked of the air mix control.
Auto: When Internal Ambient temp falls within 10d of user setting, level 3 fan. When within 5, level 2, when within 2, level 1.
I dont believe my Yoda in auto does anything else other than watch the delta for fan speed, and depending if you want hotter or colder...setting to dash or floor for output. It does also have a wet-bulb and solar sensor (way back in 87, awesome) to adjust the temp delta for human comfort levels...but yes, now we are talking $$ and complexity...but nothing SW cant solve.
Im just me..but this kind of addition, would bring the car up two decades in "golly cool!" factor.
