And exactly what is that temp display going to tell any one?

The number on the display is not going to have much bearing on temp inside the car is what I am getting at.
While it does not matter to me, I promise you that many are going to bitch when they set it for what ever number and then it does not act like a modern HVAC system.
The number is a reference only number.

Agreed BUT.. doubt the slider temp is close either and for that matter I guarantee even in my wifes 2010 Lexus the temp setting is not close either...

My reason for liking this is Paul and Hans were saying the HVAC only unit they are doing would not have any ***** which IMHO is not the way to go (but to each his own I guess) and they had also said would not include a digital temp or other display. So, some of us who would like a digital temp display have been scrounging for a solution which would update while also not looking out of place...

Now, this is what happens when you try and please everyone

Greg, there is no doubt that the AC system is not precise enough to hold a set temp. But in good working condition, it will hover around it.

When we first started this, we designed the front-end with an OLED screen for temp feedback. Most everyone said it was unnecessary. We came back with an LED array and the consensus seemed to prefer we go back to an actual number.

There is an impressive amount of hours being wasted here guys. Please let us complete a working solution, and then I can attempt to customise the face to different tastes.

I promise, Hans and I will do our best to make it better than the original

As it stands now, we are working on two versions: one with ***** and one without. Both of which will have a LED screen for temp and fan speed display. We are trying to please everyone.

Paul

Paul, it did not matter to me one way or the other, I did not even post a view on it.
But like I told Hans, some one is going to think that the numbers are what temp the car should be, and it is not going to be.

So do not think I am not going to be unhappy either way.

Just trying to head off some trouble I see coming for some one.
Personally I think the Carputer is one of the neatest things to happen to the 928's and I intend to be one of the first to have one installed.

PS, I would like to have that guy in TX do my interior, but he told me he was to busy.

Same here...where can I send a deposit for the full install?

That is a neat little display. Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, I am not sure it will work for my current project, however I will save it for future reference. The issue is that whatever display we use will need to match the digital dash on the 89+ cars, or it will look out of place on those models. Additionally, we have several customers who have requested blue, white, and amber lighting for other products, so they will likely want to match the display to this as well.

After looking back into the issue, I ran across the DOG series of LCD displays from Electronic Assembly:

http://www.lcd-module.com/products/dog.html

One advantage to this display is the backpacked LED backlight. It can be ordered in several colors, including an RGB option to allow us to color blend to match the LEDs included with other products.

Thanks
Hans

Hans and I discussed that point at length and we both agree with you. We will do our best to explain that the number you set the system at is exactly the same as the number you would set with the factory sliders. The factory system will try it's best to reach it and hold it, by consistently going over and under the set number.
The factory AC system's back end, is not capable of holding a very precise temp.

We are simply trying to supply a better looking, better functioning and long lasting front end, to that system. One that will seamlessly integrate in our full center console redesign with the carputer, and also one that will be useful to those who only want to upgrade a faulty AC controller.

And yes, busy doesn't even come close to describing the situation over here

I like that display Hans! Could do some cool stuff with it as well by having the top row indicate the temp setting with the bottom indicating the mode maybe (which vents selected, defrost, rear AC on or off, etc.).

VERY NICE!

For those who did not click here is the image...

Seriously, at some point Hans and Paul are going to have to freeze the design and say "Here is what we got", or make custom units for every buyer, and that will really drive the price up.
For the folks that have not seen one, check it out at SITM, I will also have a Sharkwoofer installed in my car if any one wants to see the install and hear it.

I think we are just about to that point now. We took all the suggestions on board and hopefully we are coming out with something that most will enjoy using.
But you are right, at one point, we do need to stop designing and move to production.
