Isolated octal high-side switches are now cost effective as well. I really wanted to use the Infineon Isoface chips last time, but they were pretty darn pricey. Now ST has a new chip out the ISO8200B which is very similar, albeit with a little less current handling. However a 0.7a, its got plenty of headroom to drive the vacuum solenoids.

This is starting to look incredibly promising.

I heard that someone else had a functional prototype, so let it go. Working on other things now.

Where did you leave off with the project? These days everything could be done with a touch screen and controllers, etc.

I haven't looked at this project in many years. I still have all my files and notes, and it would be considerably easier now with what is available.

I don't see myself getting back into it anytime soon, I have a couple other big projects to finish up but may consider it after that.

That does look good. Shame it would require cutting the console to fit.

There are a lot more options out there to do this project right in 2023. You can run Android Car Play and Apple Play off of a cheapo raspberry pie, and have a zero clearance LCD embedded in the thickness of the trim pieces.

Maybe someday I will pull out the old files and play around.

Its does look good & well executed - but lets be honest - this is history now, of a few generations ago. For context look at the car phone also implemented. This has no navigation, very low res and small screen and look at all that real estate dedicated to those buttons & *****. Yes we'd like this quality level of integration but in a modern system with modern connectivity, features & interface.
