The mode selection is now done through the same switch technology as our window switch panels. The illumination is done through the same fiber optic technology as well. Each selection is verified with an LED in the "on" state for easy verification at a glance.

Contrary to the factory setup, modes can be selected in addition to one another.
So you can have recirculation with any vent selection. The middle dash vents do not have a selection because they are always on.

On the temp ****, the limit switches will activate a blue LED on full cold and a red LED on full hot.

Although the **** faces are not lit, a back lighting glow will set them off from the face.

Please keep in mind that a lot of tweaking still remains to be done.

Thanks

Paul
Very nice..but its missing something.

How about a LED display for internal set-to/external temperature..with a button to toggle one or the other.

Raise the HVAC buttons into the upper 2/3rds of the center, and the lower third being this with something else (rear A/C?) to fill up the open space?

I'll certainly be getting this..once its time.

There will be 2 AC controllers in offer. This is the "simple" version
The other one will carry a lot of bells and whistles and was discussed at the beginning of this thread. There are a few pictures as well.
And designs are still evolving of course.

Add me to the list for the simple control, I assume I can have the same led colours and background as my light switches?

Hans and Paul,
You guys are doing some awesome stuff!
Thanks Hans also for the info on the controller for the steering wheel.
I have a suggestion that you may have already thought about.
Can you make the AC controller a modular part where say if someone orders the standard version and latter on they want to upgrade you can just pop it out or unscrew it and put in something with more computer controls or something of that nature?

Allen,

I looked at making it modular, and was hoping I could, but it is just not possible, at least not at this time. I may be that I can change the plans for the faceplate of the future unit to fit within the dimensions of this new assembly.... but not likely.

However, the electronics in this unit will be the same as the factory replacement climate heads that we will soon be offering, and the machined console insert frame is one of the least expensive parts of the kit, so we will offer some kind of core/exchange upgrade for early adopters who want to get the future climate unit. I will be able to either refurbish the climate boards and install them in a factory replacement case, or use them in another person's console who prefers the simple version (at a slight discount for "used" guts).

Thanks,
Hans

Hans, you say this could control other items, would it be possible to incorporate control for Valentine 1 radar detector control? i.e. the On/Off volume ****? I could always locate the speaker in another location.. I currently have it mounted in the space between the AC button and the door lock button by simpe drill of holes for the **** and speaker.

The short answer is yes. Also, if go with the carputer system, there is already a serial control application for the V1:

We can make custom laser engraved V1 buttons on your console, but you would be responsible for configuring the switches to interface properly with the V1. I will be offering custom work, but I will have to start charging a reasonable hourly rate to develop/fabricate custom options. Additionally, I have so much work on my plate, it realistically will be a long time before I can offer custom work.

Thanks

Very nice, I like it. It looks a lot like a 968's controls:

Excellent! I dont think would be interested in the full blown carputer, just the HVAC controls as dont want to have to replace the CDR-220 head unit have now... PUT ME DOWN for a simple HVAC with V1 controls!

I have a remote display integrated into the rear view mirrorr so only need the controls done via the remote control in the simpe hvac area.. Just a clarification

Also, Paul, I will shoot you a separate email about the interior in my wife's '82, so please be watching for it. We had talked about April, and I am still interested, but figured you were busy after watching some of these threads. lol

As to the number of people who should get a setup before SITM... its going to be as many as possible. As of yesterday, I have abandoned all projects related to getting my own car prepped, and this is the number one priority.

Greg - Dont even try to act like you arent on the list. You know you are getting one in the first batch.

Thanks,

Hans,
I have a climate head from an 82 that the top slider is broken that you are welcome to if you need it. Just P/m me where you want it sent.

I have been quite, but working hard on the project this past week or so. Been pushing the climate control hard, and should have some good news on that soon. A bit to early to state anything for the permanent record though.

I have purchased a new evaluation touchscreen using the projected capacitive touch screen panel. It should be here next week. I have also received confirmation that this panel will be able to receive the optical bonding treatment as well as a vacuum deposition anti-reflection coating (optical grade - same as custom prescription lenses, aviation gauges... etc). Samples for those should arrive at the supplier for his evaluation next week, and then I should get my hands on them early may to determine which options I will be recommending. Also, another fun bit of display news, I will be able to order these new displays with an HDMI input which I can miniaturize making for easier cable routing inside the console.

The vendor that I am licensing the HID interface for the function buttons has received the navigation device I sent him, and is evaluating it to make sure it is fully compliant. I have designed the board to hold additional input devices, including a high-quality optical encoder in the even there are any issues with my first choice.

Finally, for those who may be interested, Centrafuse software is on sale through the end of the month, details can be found here on their store:

https://www.centrafuse.com/Store.aspx

Thanks
Hans
