Wow that looks really good. The black trim really pops on the green. Can't wait to see the finished product!

Nice weather finally. Remounted the bumpers temporarily so done pay too much attention to fitment. Re sanding as we speak. I am still looking for a flexible body filler to use. The "E" in Porsche has some damage I need to fix. I also have noticed the rear bumper is sunken in ( see pics )...wonder how to re flatten? Bond a steel angle inside??? I really hope to have the bumpers ready to paint in a few days. Right now I plane to remove the bumpers for final Paint.

What is the best way to sand the recessed lettering on the rear bumper??? I need to remove the old primer build up and want nice clean edges.

Thanks

Dean,

I think the recommeded method of cleaning out the letters is media blasting with walnut shells...

Are you going to remove the bumperettes on the back? Those are hideous.

Dean That is what my rear bumper ended up looking like. I believe it was from using stripper. How did you prepare yours? I stripped mine then block sanded. I also had a huge slice that was about 2ft long and had to repair that!

2-17-11 update

Well I have spent 3 days trying to media blast these bumpers. My problem has been figuring out the Harbor Freight blaster I bought a long time ago and never used. I bought it used off CL. At any rate I purchased 25lbs of walnut shell fine media. After wasting 2 days trying to get this to shoot I called to see what a local baster would charge. After talking to him on the phone and telling him what I have he felt sand would NOT be too abrasive. He said he had sot many a wheel with the tires still on with sand with no damage....so.....I changed out the walnut shell with the aluminum Oxide that came with the blaster and it shot SOOOOO much better. I'm sure I have the wrong tip for shell. BUT my point is...the aluminum oxide was NOT TOO ABRASIVE on these bumpers. I shot at 115 PSI at about 1 1/2" to 2" distance and it did no damage to the bumper. In fact the surface looks better than what the DA sander left. These pics show the tight areas I did with Aluminum Oxide...notice the surface is smoother and less scared than the DA sander. Any damage you see was already there by ME using various tools to try to sand with.

Long story short..Aluminum Oxide did a very nice job on the rubber bumpers.
