I know some may think this next part is a little rice but...I'm going to paint the dash bezel the body color. I really think it will add a little punch on the inside. I sanded and primed it today as well. Let the stones fly!

I think I mentioned this before...I think something (or several somethings) under the hood should also be the body color...keep the theme going! It is SOOO beautiful!

Hi Dean nice work there, glad the bumpers got blasted thats about the best way to strip them..
Now a few observations first it looks like you may need new front bumper shocks,
as the fog lamps look like they are a bit in to far,
it would be a good idea to measure the length of the shocks
. post your numbers, someone should be able to give you a yes or no.
Next for painting the pod bezel,
you should note that the little raised areas along the floor of the front of the openings are the light transmitters,
if you dont leave the flat surface that faces the gauges clear of paint then you will effectively stop them from putting light into the gauges,
I found that if your careful with some acetone you can wipe off any of the paint you have put on,
( it will also take off the chrome paint that was applied at the factory)
and it should not damage the plastic,
then you can glue on some tinfoil to the light guides on the undersides and the flat bevel thats facing you on the floor of the pod,
this is the reflecting portion,
use the shiny side of the aluminum foil against the light bars..
Carry on Sir your doing an excellent job!

Merlin...I think your right. haven't measured the shocks but the PASS side does look "moved in" more so than the DRIVERS side. That may explain the "wrinkle" on the Pass side in the bumper cover. I guess I will have to fix this at some later time as I am out of funds for new parts right now.
I did wet sand the bumpers covers and bezel. I did put tape inside the 3 slits on the bezel for lighting the dials. I also covered the socket areas so I'm hoping to keep paint out of the reflective areas. I will remove the tape while the clear is still wet as I have come to realize removing later only lets you peel the clear right off with the tape.
Next I will build a smaller paint booth to shoot these tomorrow.
Questions....
1) Do I wet sand smooth the area where the beading will hide?
2) Paint the bumpers OFF the car I assume?
Thanks

Hmmm, I have an extra standard speedo also, needs an odometer drive gear, I was holding it for a test fixture for a new brass drive gear i was thinking of producing, but maybe Dean needs it more than I do? I can toss it in the package with the bumper shocks too if you don't have a better offer...

Dean, I feel your pain! Only this last two weeks have I had any job that paid me a dime in over 2 years! Nice to have a little money coming in anyway, but will take some time for me to get the hang of this new gig such that I can make it pay the bills! Wish I could help more than just with moral support, but you know you have at least that from me on this project Dean! I have been following it from the beginning and have really enjoyed watching it evolve!

yes you need both front shocks paint the bumper off the car and make sure to put a good coat where the beading is no need for primer to show.
Also consider if your going to put on a front spoiler make the front bumper cutouts now
