I agree. however, the series which I was so excited about, just went from funny, to a joke. I mean, a few laps here and there for the "BS" laps, would be ok, but to do what they did, seems a little over the top. anyway, no doubt we will be having fun. In fact, we had near 1 hour of penaties last time, and if the engine wouldnt have blown, we could have been in the top 10. so, its really about the drive and the experience, which is still awesome!

Short update....The 928 Estate was having big overheating problems about 2 hours into the race. They were working on it when a Chevy compact station wagon smacked the wall, flipped onto its roof, slid down the track and burst into flames! Driver made it out and got medical attention while the emergency crew put out the fire. Race was stopped of course, giving time for the 928 crew to work on the overheating problem. Tom and I had to leave, so I don't know if they were able to find a fix.

Thanks for the update. The race is underway again but I'm not sure about the 928. There are a few web cam feeds here for those interested.

When we left, the car was back in the race and seemed to run well. We continue to have our fingers and toes crossed for a successful ending.

Nicole,

Thanks for posting pictures.. Sorry I missed you and Heinrich whe you left. I was at the race team's shop for a little while longer than expected.

Anyway, great to meet everyone that showed up, and hope to see all of you again sometime.

Dave and I had a nice 2 car caravan back to San Jose where I had to split off and head further south.. (Funny thing is we passed Bill Ball getting on the freeway on the way down, but he didn't see us.... Oh well..)

It was a nice day, and great to catch up..

Cheers,

We had a great day today. I started today, Sean second, and Mark A. was third, with Brian batting clean up! at 12:50 we were up to 3rd place for the day! I had a ton of fun today, racing was awesome, lots of action and great battles. The Estate was running great, handling well and was a blast to drive. It basically felt like my racer on street tires and just a lot less power! What is nice about not having much power, is that you use very little brakes. They looked brand new after one full day of racing nearly 7 hours. we all did 2 hour stints today and had great pit stops. really no mistakes and no penaties.

I hope the video turned out ok, as I think I saw about 5 big hits in front of me, but about 4 others that were hilarious, behind me in the rear view mirror. one was so funny, I almost ran off track watching it!

Ill let Brian fill in the details.

Just want to say Thanks to the everbody on the team.

Here is Mr Anderson in form. I hung out at the chicane and took a few shots for a while and enjoyed the sunshine! I was laughing out loud, more than once. You should have seen the honda, sliding sideways at 60mph when he hit the chicane's tires broadside! they left the tires, in the chicane, and somehow, they all still were able to go 2 wide.

Here is one as well as one of the V8 hybrids. There was an old gen2 Rx7 with one of these 350CIs running around. got to love the circle track wing

1st off thanks to all the drivers and crewthat but in the work for a great weekend!!!! Thanks to all the 928ers that came out to say hi!!!! Its always great having a cheering section!!

Unforunately I came down with a bit of food poisoning so I was VERY under the weather on Saturday...so please forgive my lack of socializing....if I seemed distracted its because I was looking for the nearest bathroom!!!

On to the "Good"

Anderson went out 1st...and it takes around 30 minutes to get everyone on track before it goes green.....so depending on where you happen to be on track when it goes green really matters in the overall standing..... At about noon we were on the lead lap in 11th place with 16 cars on the lead lap!!!

Then we has some overheating issues at the end of the Andersons stint...it turns out a nameless rocket scientist (me) installed the seal behind the thermostat wrong....whats worse is I installed it that way because I took the old one out that way (from the last race)..... Once we got that resolved our temp problems went away!!! Typically the water was around the 2nd line, oil was around 240-250F and the automatic was a lowly 185F.... we were fortunate that the track was closed for most of the time we were fixing the thermostat problem...so we didn't loose all that many laps...

Sean went out next and got us up to 65th place from 85th after the repair....Kibort was last on Saturday and got us up to 35th...

The scoring DID not reflect our fabulous 40 lap penalty at the start.....so all the results we saw were based on actual laps-position...

Sunday:
Kibort went out 1st....and was on fire!! We were in 3rd overall at the end of his stint.....Sean went out next and had and held position well, even fighting temp problems (again) which caused him to slow his pace.....Then Anderson went out and the last results we got was we were in 8th place with 3.5 hours to do....

I went out after Anderson at around 4 for the last stint of the day...luckily the 8 million pills my wife gave me helped.... Car felt GREAT.....Temp were right at the 2nd line and oil was 240-255 depending on how hard I was pushing.....I was out to take the checker at 5:15 and not one car passed me!!!! Some would briefly get by in traffic, just to get hunted down later.....the 928 really shines on the track....it has an excellent combo of power-brakes-handling in a package that is VERY easy to drive....I would catch up to far lighter or more powerful cars and watch the drivers struggle-fight their cars....I "almost" felt sorry for them!!!

Final results are not yet in....clearly we didn't "win" or win any awards...but finishing a 16 hour endurance race against 150 cars and finishing with a well running car is a VICTORY in my book!!!

Heres a few pics from the day.....I didn't take many and since our camera guy was making a documentary of the race!!! I will post small clips once I get them!!

Congratulations to the whole team! Finishing an endurance race with a car that old is already a big accomplishment by itself; doing so in a top position is even bigger. If you get all the prep work perfect for next time, the big win should be well within reach.

As I watched Mark Anderson drive around turn 2 on Saturday (see my earlier pictures), I noticed that the 928 didn't seem to struggle with the turns like many others. There was no instability, no fishtailing; the car acted, as if this was the most normal thing to do. It was really cool to see this!

Congrats, just surviving is an accomplishment. Good to hear that you did so well. I guess the "new motor penalty" is behind you now, so you'll have a much better shot next time out. Way to go!

I have a bunch of pics but since it would take a while to upload 3GB of photos from home over DSL, I'm going to do it later today from the office. Lots of good shots of the "Members Only" entry... while "effluence was expected" there was no way you could compete for that award with the extreme hooptiness of the Citroen.
