That depends on your definition of "All".

85 euro has the more shallow valve reliefs, so you will hit more than the earlier models.

valves are cheap. you have to pull the motor anyway, so you just replace the bent ones. heck, there are only 16, you probably bent 5-8 of them.

I know it's not apples to apples but on a TBF 32v 86 engine I took apart, the only valves that weren't bent were the ones that were broken.

I am not so sure that ANY 16 value 928 will bend valves.....I know many people have paid shops for a valve job just not so sure that ANY valves were bent ! Just as many "head gasket failures" were in fact oil cooler failures in the radiator.....shop usually called after changing gaskets and said You know when the head gaskets failed it must have damaged the radiator cause now you need one of those too.......

I 'll see if the seller is interested in a leak down test, this will determine if there is valve damage .

I don't think its worth the asking price, probably $2k at most (depending on the interior/exterior condition).

How do you do a leakdown with a broken belt?

Put a belt on it and cross your fingers. Worked on my 83 euro, although a bit different but not by much. I agree with mr. Bailey having been there a couple times myself.

I bought the "RARE" '85 Euro 5spd w/ LSD, Sunroof delete, fair interior with no cracks in the dash or pod, nice Sony stereo, AND - it just had a timing belt and water pump installed - for $3,000 and drove it the 1,300 miles home to start dumping more money in....

I think the price is way out of line folks. Your seriously looking at a $1,000 car - if it isn't a automatic! If it's a automatic you'll have no idea if the trans is any good until you get it running!

Just sayin'

Valves would not be my worry as much as its a pig in a poke, non runners could have any number of expensive hard to detect until you get it running problems.

The way I "read" it, if it had been in the hands of a knowledgeable mechanic it wouldn't have a broken timing belt, so all work ever done to it should be questioned.
