Default Get your local Rennlisters to help!

We have a group on the Jersey shore that will show up, fix it (and drive it) for free. (right Mike!) Get it running! and look at the other 93's for sale on the net $40- $60k. I mean fifty grand will make you feel alot better!! I'm in the same canoe, lost my job, sold the BMW, selling the house, and a non-running 928 (1980) SC project. I've spent alot of effort getting the 928 running, next is roadworthy, then sell it or not.

After having gathered a few more facts about the car and really studying the pictures, Here's what I come up with:

Don't know the mileage, but let's say it's around 100k miles. My guess that a clean original '93 GTS (auto) in "good" condition would fetch around $30k in this market +/- $5k depending on buyer and seller's ability to market and negotiate. But let's use $30k as the basis.

Salvage title -$10k
Auto to manual sex change - neutral for the right buyer if everything works perfectly
'85 trans (no PSD) -$1k (if it has LSD, it might be neutral)
Incorrect wheels without center caps $-500
Funky seats (originals gone) -$1k
Current condition of the interior (half apart) -$1k
Non-running engine with supercharger -$5k
Black intake -$500
Painted bumper beading (assume poor paint job) -$2k
Bad economy with desperate seller -$???k

When I add all that up, I come up with a value of about $8k. That's probably what I would offer for this car if I were interested. A lot of these items can be taken care of with some cleaning, fixing, and better marketing.

I would be surprised if you got offered more than $10k for it as is.

I'm not trying to bash you, just trying to let you know what you can do to "fix" your situation.

I think $30k for a auto GTS is too high for the market. The key being automatic. Original 5-speed GTS's are much more valuable.

James I wish you luck on the job front and the best for you and your family.

I have been following this thread and prospective buyers have learned the following:

Car does not run but you say would be an easy fix. (this usually means you have tried to fix it, spent a fortune to no avail, or it is unfixable.... Otherwise car would be running)

It's a GTS...(it was at one time but now is a cobbled together car with non Matching #'s and non GTS parts)

It has a salvage title (this explains all the frankenparts this was obviously no minor fender bender writeoff.)

A lot of the interior has been replaced (with more non GTS parts so car was neglected or wrecked so bad....)

I have doubts that the cars value is worth the sum of it's parts, as others have noted viable GTS is in this price range.
I would think put it on fleabay and as many say "as is where is and let the buyer beware"

I'am a little confused by your info.. so it wasn't ever running with the SC kit on it?
I am not going to look for KM old thread selling the SC but if I am not mistaken KM offered to install the SC for free or for an additional $500 which I think was pretty darn reasonable. He should have accepted his offer.

Yea, Joe's car was/is FREAKING AWESOME... that it sold for $25k is depressing to me!

Good news James, you don't have to be depressed. It didn't sell for 25k, it was traded even for a pristine '94 911 cabriolet with 38k miles.
I'll be driving it (Joe's SC GTS) at Third Coast this weekend with my hubbie in tow in my ramp van. Nothing like a well trained hubby!

Parts value would bring him the highest return. The SC kit alone is worth almost as much as your total for the car, mabye a couple thou shy. If he wants maximum bucks to deal with the lay-off financial crunch, he should probably part it.

For the record..... This is not a "MURF 928 Stage 3" kit on this car.

It has the components to act like one but this one is a home brewed version with an aftermarket intercooler and plumbing parts. It started life as a MURF 928 Stage 1

I'm not trying to be negative, just wanted to state the facts since I was getting PM's about it.

I also vote for getting the car back to as close to stock as you can.

I found a bit more information on this car. It had 95k miles as of 2 years ago, so my guess on the mileage is pretty close.

Also, see this thread - specifically post #12. The car has been rebuilt twice. With this information, I'd offer $3k~5k and then part it out.

Jezuz!

It is a California car and was hit early on in the rear and totaled. For a late model GTS to be totaled takes a pretty good hit. This is part of the reason the rear hatch does not close correctly and probably leaks as well.

The car then was rebuilt on a salvage title and ended up in Chicago where is was hit hard in the front and sold a wreck a couple of times on eBay. It sat a few years between each rebuild.

If the car tracks correctly it will be a miracle. The front end was cut off an 87 S4 and welded on to the front of the GTS. The cut was made behind the front strut posts to save the expense of a frame machine. The carpets were replaced because the original carpets were damaged by the welding on the new front clip.

If you lived close enough you could put the car in my shop and we could gather some 928 wrenches and get it running and ready for sale. I think you deserve some help from the Rennlist community in this time of a job loss and unknown future prospects. We have done more than that for others on this forum.

I'm in NC, so the offer stands. If you can get it here and cover parts cost, we can gather the labor to get it running.

Personally, I would sell the S/C separately (may help pay the parts to get the car running) and then find some stock seats and wheels.

Is it an LSD trans? If it is, that may be more of a plus than a negative on the trans swap issue.

I agree, the salvage title is a negative that will not be overcome.
