Next time Dwayne takes the north road across country, perhaps you'll join and stop by our place for some dinner too! Welcome to the board. I suspect you are quite a shark lover too - we've seen pics of your car!
Don't be a stranger.[/QUOTE]

Thanks Ed, for the welcome and the invite! Not so sure I can handle the trip with Dwayne's...he's been known to go without sleep while doing them! lol But if I ever do, you bet I'll have him stopping by! And yes..I adore sharks, have the best of both worlds..great cars to drive & a good wrencher to keep them running! Yes..life is good!

What is Dwayne bringing home, I wonder?

Does he have another shark on that trailer?

Surely not.

Does he?

Default Holbert Transport CA to CT - Epilogue

YAHOO! I made it home Friday just before 1:00pm Pacific - WHAT A GREAT EXPERIENCE!!

It took 4 days to drive out with planned stops along the way (11/7-11/10), I spent most of the 11th with Ed, unloading the car and getting the VIP tour of his place of business and 928 shop, then just 2 days to return home (just 47.75 hours to return 2833 miles home)!

The icing on the cake was the stop by Holbert's Porsche Dealership in Warrington, PA on the last leg of the trip. I'll be posting pics on a separate thread. A BIG THANKS to Ed for making the arrangements for the visit!

Ed did a great job of keeping track of me on the road and keeping the list informed with pics and location updates. THANKS, Ed!!

I thought I'd post just a few add'l pics. All the pics were loaded onto a CD and sent to Ed yesterday (along with all the records for the trip) for his historical "scrapbook" of the car's journey.

I had a great visit and dinner in Phoenix, AZ with the desert gang on the first day out. It was a great turnout and very nice 928's showed up. Here's Rick with his beautiful GT...

...and, of course, I can't resist getting a pics with such a nice example 928! THANKS again to Rick and the AZ Desert Gang for setting up the meet!!

In New Market, VA, I met up with Kevin from the Northern VA area. We had a great visit and talked about our favorite subject, of course. He brought me this really cool shirt - which I proceeded to wear for the rest of the trip - even the drive home! THANKS, Kevin and the Northern VA/DC gang for the great shirt!

Here's another pic of the place we unloaded the Holbert at the back of Ed's shop. I was surprised when I pulled around the corner and saw the string of 928s lined up at the back of the building. I didn't realize Ed was up to his eyeballs in 928s! Here's a pic of the 6 he has lined up outside. He gave me the story on each one - some really fun projects he has going on!

Just having some fun unloading the Holbert. Since I had my Wheaties for breakfast, unloading the car was a snap!

Inside the shop, Ed has the '94 Iris Blue GTS tucked away on the lift - a gorgeous shark! I also learned Ed's wife is a 928 fan and drives them regularly - Cool! They are a class act!

Ed was excited to get the car in the shop and wasted no time getting it unloaded and up on the lift - assessing the work to come in the next phase of the "Return to Bonneville 2012" project!

I had a TREMENDOUS visit at Ed's place. He and his wife took great care of me and gave me the VIP tour of his business and shop. It was very impressive. The shop is a dream place for working on 928s and I'm envious!! Ed is living the dream!!

After finishing up at Ed's place and getting some very nice parting gifts (THANKS, Ed!), I returned the U-Haul trailer, topped off the gas tank and hit the road heading for home about 4:00pm Eastern time. Got a message from Jarrod in Tulsa the next day and we decided to meet for a late lunch since I was passing right through Tulsa. He brought his Velvet Red GT - an awesome 928! Everything on it was meticulously cleaned. Another gorgeous example in good hands! Here's Jarrod with his baby....

....I had to get in the picture too! THANKS, Jarrod, for meeting up with me and for the great company and dinner!

All in all, over 6,000 miles travelled, great visits and hospitality with the 928 community, excellent examples of 928s seen along the way, quality time with the Holbert 928, a great way to spend the week!

THANKS again to Ed for the opportunity to help with the project and for the outstanding support during the trip! It was an experience I will remember fondly always!

What an awesome trip you had Dwayne, I am SO JEALOUS!! Why don't you tell us all more about the details of your trip and your arrival? Who else did you meet, what other things did you see on the way, etc.? Like, were you accosted by any strangers at any of your gas stops curious about that incredible wreck? And who else was there to greet you at the end? A trip across the country towing that baby is probably worth at least 10,000 words!! What an awesome vacation you had!

Such a coooool story! Wish I could have been a fly on the sun visor of your truck!

Leslie,
It was a phenominal experience and will be a memory of a lifetime. Here's the link to the final visit at the Holbert dealership in case you have not seen it: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ealership.html

Along the way, I was passed by other cars and I noticed quite a few of them were staring at the Holbert while they passed by - I'm sure some were reading the lettering on the quarter panel about the speed record! One guy at a gas station asked about the car and I got to explain about the car and the journey I was on. And Kevin and I got to talk to the rest area attendant at the New Market Rest Area about the car while she was taking our picture. Then she told another rest area attendant that was nearby. Of course, the AZ gang in Phoenix, Kevin in Viginia, Jarrod in Oklahoma, and Ed's Place in Connecticut were all great stops along the way and fantastic times visiting with everyone!

Only scary part of the trip was driving through parts of the New York City metropolitan area freeways at night on the final leg between Holbert's dealership and Danbury, CT - that was......interesting - glad I had the GPS!

Yikes! The stupid gps sent u THRU New York City?? Oh man, I'll bet that was real fun. Lol.

I remember trailering the white S4 thru some nasty areas of New York heading for the GW bridge from CT because the damn gps told me to turn at the wrong time and I missed the exit for the non-NYC route. Ended up going thru parts of the Bronx I would rather not have visited in an armored truck, let alone towing a highly visible 928!!

I have to say, NYC streets are not really set up well for towing a trailer either. Hopefully you didn't have to get off the highways at least.

I watched ur whole trip across the country on this thread in pure amazement and awe. Wish I could have gotten out to meet you in person but it was not to be, unfortunately. *sigh*

Lucky lucky guy!
