Default Who is in?

Thanks Bill, see you there mid morning!

Anyone else in. I seemed to remember, Ryan talking about coming.

I would like to coordinate with Mark, on what we will be trying to do and get a plan together. I also dont want to impead on the festivities during the sharkfest, but just be apart of it so that it adds a little something too.

Let me know who else might want to help out a little.

Thanks

I just spent another 6 hours on the Holbert car, trying to get it ready for its trip to LA. the powersteering and alternator console was a Bxxch to get out. it was pinned in there against the oil cooler lines and the frame rail. by getting the oil lines ot of the way, and removing the partially damaged radiator, I was able to break it all free. Any one got a power steering pump pulley they dont need? mine has a pretty bad ding in it , but the pump seems to be ok. I also started the car one last time with the torque tube not connected to the short shaft. (as there is a definite angle due to the frame being bent ) seemed to run fine. I shut it down, and drained the fluids. I just have to see how we are going to strap this thing down before the trip to LA. I dont know how this engine is going to come out, as I cant rememeber how much room you need to drop the engine out the bottom. It looks like it will be ok.

If I'm able to make the 'Fest, I'll come a day early and help where I can, Mark.

Im leaving at about 5am, so i should get there about 11am. anytime after that, we can dig into the swap.
I still dont have a clue how we are going to do things. Ive prep'ed the car best I can to get engine out, but Ive never dropped one out the bottom before. Well, actually I have, but I dont remember how I did it.
Im mostly worried about how to get the car off the trailer with a forklift.

Will the rear tires still be on the car?

Ill have some rear tires and wheels on the car. so that it can be resting on those for the drive down. The front will be sitting on two tires under the chassis (so the engine pan doesnt make contact with the trailer) and then strapped down to the trailer.

Perhaps Mark has a dolly to slip under the front for unloading and manuevering. If not, a chain up front from chassis to the fork lift tines, and a few resets, should do the trick.

maybe we use the jack under the steering rack, jack up the front of the trailer and let the car slowly roll down the ramps, while guiding the front of the car with the jack. however that only would last until it got the rear tires down near the end ofthe ramps. Then, the forklift can join in to finish? I dont know. (I have the e-brake system still working)

Guys, you're overthinking this. Get it strapped down securely for the trip, as long as Mark A has a piece or two of chain with slip/pinch hooks or a decent strap to go along with the forklift unloading it should be gravy. Even without the chain/strap it's not a big deal.

Hey, you know me, I get like this!

anyway, you are right. Actually, we are going to do it by the fork lift lifting up the front of the car via the toe hook, and then pull the trailer out from underneath the car. I should just roll down the ramps no problem. Then, we just drop the cross member and steering rack combo, and the rear end suspension and drop it all out of the car. Hopefully, we can get it all in the new car that way too.

I imagine Mark A and crew have a bit of experience with this sort of thing.

Depending on how far apart the posts are on his lift(clearance for trailer?) it might be easiest to back the trailer in and grab it with the lift.

Getting it ready for the trip down to Sharktoberfest. Getting excited about coming down and seeing everyone and taking car of the major step in the rebuilding project.

Im really kicking myself for starting this thing up as much as I did. turns out there was no axial forces on the engine, but the kink of misalignment (cracked bell housing on one side) was right near the short shaft and coupling. If I ran it as much as I did, im thinking the forces would be pretty great on the coupler itself and the torque tube. I guess we will see, but at first glance, the torque tube spins pretty free and without visual run-out, and the short shaft, being kind of a floating shaft, could easily pivot on the pilot bearing and not damage anything as the clutch discs, T-O bearing all can be shifted around center without damage I would guess.

Anyway, Im loading up the truck and trailer and coming down Friday AM to put the running gear in to the Donor car that Ive bought from Mark Anderson.

See you there!

Have a safe trip Mark. What time do you think you will get started at 928intl on Friday?
