And then, a few more hours and it got an official SCCA Log Book, and only had a few minor write ups in the book before it could get an annual. (club stickers on the car, and one more number on the hood)

So, now, just got to find the cash to race in the season opener. was not going to do any races for a whle, but Thunderhill would be a safe shake down race weekend. (no tuning, no track time prior, just replace engine, stuff, and gut, and go! )

SCCA got a weekend to hang out in the parking lot of the now famous, Club AutoSport in San Jose. pretty interesting place if you have never seen it. Here is a car that showed up..... a GT40 MK3. very cool!! My son Gavin even got a ride in it!

Now, got to find some racing sponsorship.

The new Widow is just about done too.... I've been debating getting a NASA log book for the Lemons racer...just for fun....with R comps it could be competitive in GTS2 against the spec E30's....

Now, the serious mods are done. the only thing left are the rear windows , bumper and my second set of rim rebuild.

Here are the splitter pics . Project was pretty quick. 3hrs of cardboard stensiling, and 5 hours of installation. But, it was cheap. used fender scrap aluminum!

Nice.....but don't you think you will need more than 1 support wire?

Yep, ran out of the thick stuff and time this afternoon, but I had to take it for a cruise. I also wanted to do some filming of it at high speed to see what it did at 100mph with only 1 support wire. (if you remember the video i posted with the holbert added splitter at 120mph, almost vaporizing, and then with the 3 added support wires, that fixed the problem and verified up to 130mph. )

Ill probably only end up putting 2 more wires at the outer thirds.

Im beginning to really like the black. I wonder if Ed would trade me back the black rear hatch in trade.
Or, I guess I could just have it sprayed when I fix the flares and nose, and probably the rear bumper.

I think its going to stay black.

Mark--

Since te door glass is a pull-up piece, do you by chance have the old window switches available? I have James M's '85 Euro project in my garage and itneeds at least one.

PM with price/availability if you don't want to post here.

Thanks!

Thanks Mark. We'll find some or I'll pop the covers off of these and see if there's any hope.

I got the other two wires mounted. Im only using 3 vs the Holbert splitter design, because this material is much more rigid vs the homedepot aluminum sheet. . Ill post some video going 130mph with "Splitter-cam" on a close hyway soon to see what the splitter is doing. The interesting about this design, is that it incorporates the stock air dam, which has a lower inlet, below the splitter (as it is sandwiched between the air dam and the bumper assembly) this allows for any air that spills off the splitter or is lower than the splitter, to be caught and routed to the radiator. effectively, giving the splitter a lower position without being lower.

I just finished the rear bumper removal and some little mods to stablize the rear plastic when the bumper is not underneath. the bumper is onloy 27lbs, not the 35 or 50 that I thought I remembered it to be. . anyway, its out, and the only thing weight wize to remove is the side glass, but thats only about 10lbs total savings.

I also did my vent mod to the rear, which I did with it off the car which was much better for doing it right. basically widened the holes where the bumper'ettes come out from and put a screen over them.

I went for a 130mph test with the splitter and lost one of the headlight covers. The issue was that i actually lost headlight on the first 110mph sprint, and then actually found it on the "closed road" side. . Did the 130mph test and the splitter worked like a champ. the problem is maybe too good, is that all that pressure that hits the radiator, flalls off to the side where the wheel well vent is, and Its open right now with no fender liners. the pressure , just blew the thing out..

Mark,

Sorry about the Popeye event. Have removed the headlights and these are just covers? How are they attached?

I'm really liking the black. It makes the car more ominous somehow. What are your paint plans? What about graphics?

Yes, these are covers. (" headlight fakies" ) they are attached by 3 ears on the outside of the curcumference and then stops mounted on the fender. with the added pressure from the splitter, they were too fexible to hold, I fixed it by repairing the found cover and makng the "ears" much stiffer. they are not coming out now, but then again, they didnt for over 10 years.?

Im definitely liking the black now. paint plans for the car is to clean up the rear flares and paint them, as well as the front and rear bumpers. some type of color stripes, or sections for sure, if the rear deck remains red, but I might be getting a black one from Anderson.

wheel rebuild for damaged wheels from crash

using the only parts I could find, I actually was able to turn my 9.5" rims to 10s by using a wider outer section ( normally 1.5", now 2") as you can see, with some careful baseball bat rolling, the front fenders can be modified and not crack the paint for a 275 on a 10" rim up front and thats with 8" backspacing.

to fit the 305s up front, ill need to do the fender mod as I did last time, or do something more creative like the "fender slit/cut vent technique".

anyway, what a hassel I had to take apart my "b" set of front rims, and use the outers to fit the " A" 10" wide set of rims (1.5" outers). Then, used the new wider outers and put them on the " B" set of rims to widen them up a bit, even though those are the commuter/practice rims that only really use the 275 tires.

Well, the car is almost done with all the small, but required mods to make the car race ready. Here are the fender mods that allow me to fit the 315s up front on 10" rims. I loosen all the fender bolts , pull the fender away from the chassis. (all the soft glue has to be broken) and then I pull the fender wider by about .25". (hardely noticable). the lower mount needs to be disconnected and then you just lift up the fender at that point and mount it on top of the mounting point. this flexes the fender out about 1" at the point where it is needed and gives a 2" gap at the door area . the door area is now a vent point for wheel well higher pressure air, and a section of the fender is cut out to facilitate it. the nice thing about the real S4 side mount plastic, is that it hides the effect of this mod, so there is no dramatic fender distortion from the side view. (the holbert car was an 86 chassis with none of these plastic parts)

I see you've added gills to the shark.

Good to see you making progress, can't wait to hear more war stories after a few races.
