on the way to work, (yes, took the car to work today) I did the 60-100 test, because every time I do it, the tests give back some AMAZING times. today, near 4 seconds flat. .5 to .7 seconds than my normal time 4.5 to 4.7seconds) with the holbert car set up. (old stock 5 liter times were in the 5.7sec range). Im wondering if the knock sensor is now working due to the engine removal and install process, or if the electrical system its mated to is better, as well as the only major difference as being newer ignition coils. In any event, I was able to turn a 5.2 60-100mph in 4th gear too!!! (usually, I do the tests in 3rd, to near 6000rpm at 100mph). Im almost temped to do a dyno run just to see!

"Wondering" and "knock sensor" in the same sentence.

i dont think so. I just loaded it up with all the stuff I needed to take to the shop. the entire roof from the donor car (with a good portion of the a and b pillars) probably 50lbs, the old sunroof, 15lbs, some tools, my gym bag, a spare racing seat, and a 1/4 tank of gas. it is SO much faster, it is very noticable. could be the cool weather, I dont know. put it this way, when I first timed the cams when they broke and I replaced with 85 cams, my 60-100 times went from 5.7 to over 6.5. I couldnt cheat, to make it better with the timing. when I adjusted them better, the power came back.

Lemons is a touch under 2800 empty...but thats with an auto, blowerfan and wipers

Weather has to help a bit....but not this type of gains.....since everything else is the same...maybe you did have a bad hall sender or knock sensor....that cost Mark A over 50whp up top!! I know it straight killed Sharky's performance...I don't have dyno runs, but its acceleration times SUCKED until I fixed it....

You should cruise up to Evil Genius Racing to try the dyno..... We can arrange a weekend where you can run and the "new" Widow too!! Then to make these big HP engines feel bad we can let the lemons rip up the dyno to say 200whp.....

I wonder what lemons 60-100 time is....might have to try? I think Sharky did 7.37 seconds...when running right.....which showed 258-262whp...when the knock and hall sender were down the times were WAY off and it showed 195-205whp....

Default Cage is done.

All that is needed now, is some clean up and paint.

sunroof is still getting wrenched on . Looks like they skinned it (as I was told) and then are bracketing it to the existing flimsy roof (now that all the supports are gone)

Thanks Mark,

I will definitely keep it in mind for the interior, and will be in touch.

Its all about $$$ these days. No firm plans, but if I can find an extra $400, I'll enter a race soon. otherwise, it might be Thunderhill for one of the SCCA regionals in the summer, or maybe a NASA GTS event at Sears or Thunderhill. I always have been debuting the new cars at thunderhill. its a safe place to try out unproven technology. It should be fine. feels like the same ole car now, and all it needs is some clean up and paint! (oh, and I got to build me a splitter. Going to use some nice, straight fender aluminum, so it should be a better looking one than before)

Its beginning to look more and more like a race car. Now, it is set up, ride height , alignment, sways, big brake conversion re-mounted on this chassis, etc. all I need to do now, is finish mounting the belts, some light wiring, and get the darn thing painted. probably will see the track before the paint, if I was going to guess.

Notice the real nice base welds for cage. Also, notice that we used the old sunroof, skin only, (gutted the sunroof piece itself) and welded it to tabs.
it can be painted and smoothed and then the gap filled in with black sealant. the good news is that piece is now just about a pound or two heavier than the sheet metal of the rest of the top, but stiffer and the right shape. See the battery box? thats a piece of Door aluminum covering the batter box "delete" hole.

It's lookin great, Mark. Judging by the strap, the glass windows have been replaced. Are you going to leave the interior door panals on?

Ha ha! NOPE, the set up is idential to the Holbert racer. Glass still in the door and a the strap is used for attachement to the strap you see on the door panel. So, the glass just comes right out at the race track. Everything is Foe. The door panels just fall off and the lower area are just plastic sheet. the dash is Foe, as its just a plastic cover. the center console is the acutal console, but gutted. (very light) and held on the chassis by aluminum braces. I like using the real door glass as it attaches via the straps and provides a nice seal. Now I have newer door panels with nicer speakers for drives to the track! Ill be putting the stereo in sometime soon. notice the fake stereo ? cardboard and a picture of a stereo.

Its getting there!!

The new Widow is just about done too.... I've been debating getting a NASA log book for the Lemons racer...just for fun....with R comps it could be competitive in GTS2 against the spec E30's....
