Used both with no concerns...................not racing but 'good' highway speeds.

I have always used Mahle as well, but I have 2 Bosch Premium filters that I got some time ago that I was going to use next time around. Any experience with these?

Too funny Bill but lets not get Mark banned/suspended again.

Mobil 1 oil and new filter every year despite low mileage covered. No worries thus far.

I use whatever Roger throws at me in his living room as I"m walking out the door.

He says, "You walk out that door without this and your Fucckt!!"

I take it, I don't ask any questions, and he usually invoices me several months later.

I've always used Mahle....but managed to eat a rod bearing with one too..... Amsoil doesn't make a 928 filter, but sells a Mann filter instead?

Ok guys, I have to first preface this with (totally superstious), BUT, I was going through my oil change today, and was going for the Mann fiter which was shipped when normally I get Mahle, and started to look at both before I put the Mann on and it looked totally different. the internals of the Mahle have a spring, some other parts that might be part of a pressure bypass or something and the filter holes look different. At that point, I started thinking to myself, what if part of my luck as been the filter? I dont know, if they looked the same, I would have no reservations putting on the Mann filter, but because they dont, Im getting a little worried that they might act different under race conditions.

Remember, I dont have any issue with any oil or filter, except when you are asking it to perform at 6500rpm and 260F oil temps. Ive seen Mobil1 oil fall on its face at hight temps, (I dont want to bring up that argument as it was a long time ago and maybe Mobile 1 is better now. ) Who knows if the filter has much to do with anything under race conditions.

I keep on having a vision of the Viper in World Challenge that had a filter fail and the engine grenaded in such a way, it looked like a V2 missle taking off! (something with the valve in the filter that stuck or failed)

I have put together a sampling of oil filters from all labels that list a filter for the 928. I am planning a writeup in a similar vein to the minimopar page that Will posted a link to. Might even get to it before Sharktoberfest, but I have some brake work I have to finish first, and of course the honey-dos and my own "other stuff".

Amsoil has changed their supplier it seems, when I ordered one from them to find out what it was(they didn't state the brand at the time) it ended up being a WIX filter.

Beck Arnley and a couple others end up being repackaged Manns.

One filter -- IIRC it's FRAM -- ends up being a lot smaller than Mahle or Mann.

Anyway, one of my projects that's been on the back burner for a little while is cutting up all of these filters and reporting on the contents, also making up a cross reference so you know, for example if you see Beck Arnley filters on sale for $5 grab 'em because they are Manns!

Jim, I'll take a look at the Mobil 1 - if it's not a repackaged filter that I already have an example of, I'll pick one up and include it.

Matt, I have Bosch premium and will report.

Everything I've heard to date indicates that you can't go wrong with Mahle or Mann, and I don't expect to find anything to make me think otherwise, but I think a look at the other brands may be interesting.

A Purolator box, when opened, will yield a Mann filter.

Looking forward to a review of all the filters.

But what about that construction and design difference between the Mann and Mahle filters. Im not so much concerned with their filter construction as I am with the mechanism of the Mahle, that might have something to do with the pressure relief in the filter. maybe under high flow, or too much flow, the mahle lets oil go by unfiltered, where the Mann might be more restrictive in that extreme situation. Just a guess. Before I switch, I want to know a little more.
as far as filters or anything else besides oil from Amsoil, im not a believer. Their wheel bearing grease was terrirble. It liquified and made a mess of everything. the lithium based, good ole high performance, high temp grease has worked the best in extreme use.
