I think the problem was two fold... The needle on the early cars is more orange than red for starters so we were trying to duplicate that (on the later cars they are red) and two there is no RED super-lumi. So we would have either had red hands that were invisible at night or orange hands that we could see at night but might not be an exact match for the real thing but pretty close...

Chris will give us some more info and better pics tomorrow or the next day. He and I have emailed back and forth a few times and a few others (from here) have seen the watch live and in person and all who have seen it in the flesh LOVE IT...

I found the color chart they sent me,
The red Super Lumi doesnt look red and glowed pink (horrid looking), which is why I opted for the other color.
The "red" is the one on the left side that is glowing pink, on the 2nd row from the left.
I am going to find out (maybe tomorrow but cant promise) if they have another brand (mfg) for the glowing material that can mock it up more red or possibly have it in their stock line.
It doesn't have to be REALLY red (even a match to "!" background might work), just a bit more like the CGI pic (it wont be shiny like the CGI, for that finish it would have to be painted, I don't think that's an option).
I'm with you guys. I will find out soon.

The good news is, we are getting there and........we are gonna EAT tomorrow

Happy Thanksgiving to you all

The red is not near the same shade as the thread on the watch band. It was the way all those colors played off of one another that made the original design, I'll use that word again, "pop".

Don't mean to sound like a party pooper, but asthetically I am not as pleased with this first sample.

Might be useful to tell us what is possible in regards to getting the colors closer to the orginal design and what the trade-offs are, then post up another poll so we can get a majority opinion.

I and everyone else here recognize the extraordinary efforts that have been extended to make this awesome watch a reality. I just really want to be excited and pleased everytime I look at it instead of thinking "I sure wish the colors matched better". It is a lot of money not to be completely happy. Maybe I'm the only one that thinks so. If that is true then a poll would certainly indicate so.
Ditto.

I would prefer the 'pop' factor in the original colors vs. glow in the dark. the orangy makes it look like it is a dated and faded red. I would be wearing this 95% it the daytime(golfing, GTG, rides & cruises) and would proudly be showing it off like a kid on X-mas morning. but with the orange look I don't think I'd have the same feelings.

I woud prefer to have the RED (non glow in the dark) that looked fresh and new for years to come, than an orange(glow in the dark) that already looked faded and 15 to 32 years old. How many here show off and take pride in an old and faded 928? No one! we clean them, care for them, and fix them meticulessly. Some 928's, if not most, look as good or better than when they were new 15 to 30 years ago. thats what this watch should be. In 15 to 30 years from now long after my car will probably be gone, I will look at my watch with pride, and with an ear to ear grin remember some of the most enjoyable motoring days ever.

Also, in time the 928's number's will dwindle. Hence the value of them may increase slightly. In time, I would like to believe that my watch(being Limited to the 100) will mabe increase in value. Not that I'll ever part with it. but it would be nice to hand down a beautifull classic to my son.

I think it looks phenomenal and much more like the gauges in my car. I definitely prefer the lume on the hands for reading the time at night, the red on the 'chop looks artificial to me. Remember reality usually looks a bit different from an artist's conception. I have two watches with non-glowing hands (one gold and one 60 years old that just doesn't glow any more) and I rarely wear them. This watch I would wear a lot. Either way I can't wait, looks fantastic!

So much work and effort as been done already. We are 99% there. Let's not waste this great idea and fantastic design by not taking care of the last details.

Paul,
I'm with you and all the others that have voiced their opinions. Let's take the time and make this the outstanding watch that it should be. I've collected fine watches for a very long time, some I've waited almost two years to receive. Those ultimately are the ones that are most important to me.

(Meine Frau hat gesagt sie mag die Armbanduhr mit den roten Zeigern besser als die Super-Lumi Design.) My wife agrees that the watch with the red arms is better than the Super-Lumi design (My wife is German). I also on direct comparison prefer the painted arms. It has more pop an I will mostly be wearing it in the daytime. She also pointed out that the warning "!" symbol on the lumi watch is upside down. In my car it is an exclamation mark not an "i". Just want to make sure we get it right.

I prefer the original cocept with the red and the tach effect.
I am also happy to wait for my watches as long as they are not the "washed out" look.
Just my .5c worth.
Happy T day and go Cowboys 8>)

I asked the same thing last night....Here's the answer I got:

"If you are in on the first order $595 which includes an extra band if I recall... They are automatic swiss movement with an exhibition back. 100 only and the run is over. After the first run the price will be $749 or something like that...I think that is the price of the NON-custom version of this watch, so we are getting a real deal here for sure! "

Maybe it's just me, but compared to the conception watch, the actual watch looks like it has been laying face up on the dash, in the driveway, for the last five years. It has gone from a "must have" to a "no thanks". I think this is a terrific project and I'm so impressed with the work and passion that has gone into it. I hope the end product can be brought up to the quality that was sold in the awesome prototype.

+1

The orange color in the daylight just makes it look *wrong*. It doesn't matter if actual 928's have them a little faded and they look orange. On a car that looks wrong too. Anyway, that only applies to the pointer and not the RPM marks; orange RPM marks makes it a no-sell for me.

For me the hands MUST glow... if that means we scrap the ones we have and just go with a white hand then so be it, but if you look at the chart (at least to my eye) it looks like LACO pulled the wrong color and used the color ABOVE the one Chris had specified. That one is CLEARLY orange vs. the reddish orange that he asked for.

Oh, right after Chris looked at the pics we determined that a RED redline is the best way to go, so for those of you who have asked about that, know that the "redline" will in fact be RED. It won't glow, but it will be red.

What we are going to do about the hands is still up in the air though. I think that is the biggest issue with what Laco sent us. As noted if they had been able to follow our specs perfectly we would not be having this conversation. As it is they didn't have glowing material to match our needs and went with something close (or were supposed to) and in reality it is far from what we had sent them.

Keep your eyes peeled guys. We will get this right FOR SURE! Might delay them till Spring though...

Well, it took them 4 months or more to go from here is what we want to prototype and since we are not changing everything (but are changing a significant component) it would not surprise me a bit if they said it would take an extra 3 months. I guess that would technically put us at the very end of winter...

Chris will have a MUCH better handle on that by next week...
