Erkka, you can use the VIN search in PET 7.1 to establish the highest/lowest VIN's for each model year and country. It also returns option codes.

Its a single VIN at a time - but shouldn't be too hard to use a http sniffer proxy to work out the request format (it uses http POST) and pull the entire set of 928 VIN data into a database.

WP0ZZZ92ZKS842487 is still listed for sale by the "Porsche Zentrum 5 Seen" on the Porsche used car locator.

It seems to be a nice 1989 GT.

So it seem but maybe Fzg.-Nummer: 42487 isn't actual VIN. Or is complete VIN listed somewhere?

Options for US CS and VIN's etc for all '89 ROW CS are now known. But there still isn't any new info on where those cars are. Carfax do not have anything on either US CS VIN. This is strange as normal '88 S4 are very well covered by Carfax and almost all of them have multible records. This makes me think two CS are not in US or at least have not been on the road since they were new.

In any case there is a lot of new info available like how many ROW GT's and manual GTS were made. How many cars with LSD and/or sunroof etc. Below is little scratch on the surface. '89-95 production data split to 5sp vs automatic and LHD vs RHD vs US models. '89 US split between 5sp vs automatics and earlier MY info back to '81 will follow later.

It seems at least in ROW markets '89 GT and 5sp S4 were sold side by side during spring 1989 as after first ROW GT were made over 100 5sp S4 were done and last 5sp VIN is very close to end of MY production. In any case number of ROW GT's is now known, 1682 cars meaning total worldwide GT production is 2078. ROW 5sp GTS numbers are 431 LHD and 51 RHD made and total GTS numbers are 649 5sp and 2255 automatics.

These are just quickly put together so there can be mistakes. Data is now available and many more statistics can be made. Though sadly no paint and interior code info.

Question

I found a 1984 928S with VIN WPOJB0921ES860164. Notice the lowercase hyphen is missing or absent if compared to the original list made by Vilhuer.

Regarding the letter E, option # M718 is not listed in the codes (from the FAQ), what is it?

Lastly, does anyone have a DVD or CDs of the maintenance files? Jim doesn't have any at the moment. (Shipping is possible to either USA or Canada.)
Thanks from Canada!

The hyphen just indicates the position of the check-digit. The actual character that appears in that place in a North America VIN will vary and is calculatable by the other digits in the VIN. Its used to verify the VIN is a correctly-formed one (similar to credit card number verification, or ISBN check digits).

I think the option code is actually 218 - the options listed for the VIN you quoted don't include a 718 code. Here are the options for that car:

113 Version for Canada
158 Radio "Monterey" - 86 "Reno" - 87
185 Automatic 2 point rear seat belts
190 Increased side door strength
218 License brakets front and rear
409 Sport seats left and right leather
418 Protective side mouldings
464 Without compressor and tire pressure gauge
468 Graduated tint windshield, green side glass
481 5 speed manual transmission
494 2 speakers on back shelf
494 Amplifier system
533 Alarm system
576 Without rear fog light
642 Additive for cooling water
650 Sunroof
912 Vehicle without identification plate

Minor correction, the letter O isn't used in a vin, so actual vin is WP0JB0921ES860164.

I think your VIN pulls might be getting more info than the options on the production sticker in the back, or are they consistent? Wondering about..
WP0JB0928GS862223 and WP0ZZZ92ZDS840568

Have the build decal for the first and the COA for the second for comparison.

So that's from PET? I"ll have to go back and read recent posts.
Yes, they do deviate from build sticker and COA. THe build sticker for the first adds M494 and omits M650.

I'll have to key out the second one and ping back in if it is of interest.

And I still wish I could get some certainty on the Austria Spec..best guesses have been that it is an emissions configuration, a license plate (mounting) thing, or perhaps something with the text on the dash alerts.

I had to go here: http://www.pedrosgarage.com/Site/Por...odes_List.html to find I323.

The COA didn't list non asbestos brakes, german language instruments or the sticker.

Thank you for the insights!

I'm getting the information from lots of VIN info from many sources that I've accumulated, together with PET. What does it have ... M494 or M650 or both?

My 82 lists Singapore as the country code, and yet it's verified as Australian delivered from a Porsche dealer here in Oz, with appropriate compliance plates. My guess is that mine had been destined for that market, then they got an order for a manual, and had that one ready to go ... and the customer was happy with that car and its options. Maybe yours is a similar story.
