The seal sees a relatively high surface speed (large diameter). The old seal will actually 'machine' a groove into the shaft. The new seal very likely will not sit at the exact same spot. If the shaft is not polished smooth and the scratch lines go the wrong way it can actually work like a pump and force oil out the seal.

In fact many auto manufacturers dictate the direction and angle the grooves can have, as well as the roughness.

However, the friggen oil pan is leaking (yes I have a REAL Gasket on there) and it appears the RMS is also leaking - the lower BH cover has oil dripping from it , so I suppose it could be the oil pan back there. MFer!
When the RMS leaks, it will get on the rear of the oil pan and make it look like the pan is leaking as well. Since the RMS is easier to do with the engine in the car, I hope that's all it is. That being said, if the pan gasket is new, then it is more likely to be the problem. I do have a leak at the rear of the pan with a new silicone gasket on a car I worked on. I must have screwed up installing it.

You'll need to pull the lower bellhousing cover and see if you find oil behind the flywheel.

I think you and Tony or both wrong.. I have been trying for years to get Andrew to get some wider tires, but he really loves those 185/75-14 tires he has on the rear.... and for some reason he thinks the whitewalls are dope!

David -

Those thin whitewalls are a little too spiffy. How about WIDE whitewalls - 165/80/15?

Except for in February, and in the coldest winter in recent years.
