oh yeah i forgot about winter, it was 90 a couple days ago, then the day after that i was 60. DAMN TEXAS!

Berlin is awesome thought, I found Munich by comparison to be fairly uninteresting.

Well your going the wrong direction then. (For Berlin anyway)

Stuttgart is a cool little city. It seemed small altough i just got to the HBF and then took an S-bahn to the Stadium which is right next to the Benz museum which is gorgeous. Go there! I dont know what you can see at Porsche but i guess you have to go there, i didnt though because ive heard the museum is in the works currently and they only show a small number of cars in the meantime.

If you go to Munich check out the automotive branch of the Deutches Museum. I thought everything was in one location but i ran out of time before i could go see the cars which is i think about 20 minutes outside of town by S-bahn or U-bahn.

TAKE PICS!

I'm back. Didn't have any time to play in Germany. Oh well... maybe next time.

So yesterday (or was it Saturday?) I tested the oil/air separator. I stuck a length of tuning into the oil fill neck (remember mine is different) and blew into it. I could feel the air escaping out the air outlet for the oil/air separator. So I don't think there is any issue there.

I'm wondering if maybe I have a bad gasket or perhaps I'm not tightening it down enough? I didn't have time to check if the RMS is leaking or if it's just the oil pan gasket that's leaking back there.

QUESTION: How much "squish" are people getting with their real-gaskets? I'm afraid of over-tightening.

Usualy I tend to go around 3 times snuging up the bolts when I install a new gasket. It seems that there is still a good amount of gasket thickness showing. Then after a few heat cycles I check again and find a few that can be snuged up again. Usualy this seems to do the trick. Of course there are the ones at the back that you cant get to so if it is comming from that area I would snug up the ones next to them just a little more.

are you using bolts or studs for the oil pan gasket?

I had bolts, but coverted to studs when the engine was out. Those bolts really like to loosen up, the studs (and the nuts) don't move.

I noticed the same thing on mine... had to go around a few times, at oil changes to ck and retorque. even had a couple fall out!!! not sure why that gasket does that, but it's a chronic issue for sure.

I may not be the brightest guy around but I fail to see how studs can hold any better than bolts. When torqued correctly they both have the same holding power. Do the studs have a nyloq insert (small tab of nylon in the thread area to lock the thread in)? My pan was installed with Hondabond and none of the bolts has ever been loose!

You've got an aux box right? Just tap a breatehr line and set it up to read pressure. You can log it. Something Ive been meaning to do but have never got around to it. I actually need to log my intake system. After seeing Dariens results, im starting to think im restricted in there somewhere?

Jim the studs are locktited in place and the then use a type of locknut (not a nylock, but similar).

Good point... Never thought about doing that. Thanks Tony!

Okay, that makes sense, but then why not just locktite the bolts in. I think that is effectively what the Hondabond does .

At least on a cork gasket, locktiting the bolts will make them stay put, but the cork doesn't.

With this realgasket, I don't know its creep properties. Yet.

my studs dont use locktite and my nuts are nylock. Never had issues with them backing out.

The stud changes that point of the clamping pressure. Dr. Bob explained it to me when i first bought the car but its pretty common knowledge that a stud and nut are better at clamping then is just a bolt. I dont totally understand the physics of it but someone else can probably comment on it.
