Default Andrew's 91GT Engine Thread

I thought I'd make a thread about the pulling and refurbishing of my 91GT engine.

The events that lead up my decision to pull the engine can be found in these following threads.

Head gasket went... D'Oh! When replacing a head gasket: Pull the engine or do it in place?Detroit Area Engine Pull Party - Andrew's House - October 27

So today, the Detroit (and Findlay Ohio ) crew came over and helped me to pull the engine. I thought we'd have it out by noon, but I guess that was a bit optimistic. We had it out by 2pm. THANKS GUYS

I was going to document what all needs to be dosconnected and such, but it just takes so darn long, that I said to heck with it.

Anyway, it looks like a got lucky. The cylinder walls look fine and the head looks good. That is all first impression, so I suppose there is a possibility of the head being warped, but the head gasket looks really beat up.

Here's a bunch of pics from today.

Jep, #7 cylinder.

Replace those round black plastic things shown in Engine%20party%20016.jpg picture. You need five of them. Replacement part will be steel pin.

Did you buy a second 928? What's up with a license plate-less table?

I'm trying to fix this one for a friend, but it's really giving us problems. This is the one with the shorting fuel injectors (well that's what it seems like...) See the '91 S4 - Shorting Injectors? thread

This whole engine-removal thing is a lot more fun when it's someone else's car.

Ahhh.... I was thinking you bought another one and you're hiding under the pizza until you figure out how to tell the wife.

Andrew
Nice work.........are you going to replace the head gasket with another stock one...or go to something a tad thicker to reduce CR so you can up the boost a notch?

Andrew- Pulling an engine is something I'd love to observe being done, but would be afraid to try myself. Thanks for posting all the pics for us long distance observers.

Sorry I couldn't be there. But looks like you had Tim Horton's, so that will be the Canadian contribution.

Hey Andrew. Man, I REALLY wanted to be there. The smiles on the faces of everybody when you hauled that block out tells the story why. BTW that is one hell of a pizza table you have there. Happy for you that things are looking better on your heads.
