He lost control during a car rally in Austrailia, hit a tree killing him instantly.
This is the car he was driving when he was killed:
After the crash:
For what Peter did for the racing world, his death went pretty unnoticed.

I saw the notice that Peter Brock had died, but I was confused by the Australian touring/rally car references. I didn't know he spent that much of his life post-Shelby racing in Australia. It appears he was a racing legend there. I see that picture of the car, unmistakenly a Daytona, and read the account. That was the man. Really too bad. His verification of the the effect of the Kammback and other views of our fat rear end would have been very valuable to have.

Bill wasn't the difference in speed the roadster vs the coupe ? And If you want to "fix" the 928 you whack it off just behind the rear shock towers move the fuel cell to the rear seat area and have a very short 928 ! The Southern Cal Timing Association (Bonneville guys) do not allow station wagons to run for one reason ....station wagons generally are more aerodynamic than coupes or sedans and would be FASTER ! The big bustle butts on the BMW are part of raising the deck lid as high as possible ...

AFAIK, having read this in several magazine articles a long time ago, the Kammback and RAISING the roofline was responsible for a 25% increase in top speed for the coupe. Hard to verify it now. Caroll Shelby's still around. He was said to have initially resisted Brock's design and was advised it would not be effective. Brock convinced Shelby to let him go with it and testing on the M1 in England proved Brock was right. I have seen pictures of Daytonas without the Kammback, as Hacker mentioned.

Peter Brock was born in Australia in 1945 and sold and raced cars.

Pete Brock was born in New York in 1936, worked for a time at GM under Billy Mitchell, founded Brock Racing Enterprises (BRE) and is apparently still alive.

The idea that Peter Brock was killed driving what appears to be a car designed by Pete Brock is certainly confusing.
(Edited to add references - and make a couple corrections)

Well that explains a few things. There are two different people.
I was doing some research a while back on the Daytona coupes, found the story about Brock's death very suprising. My first thought was "He was from Austrailia?". Thanks for the info.

Mighty coincidental that a Peter Brock would be driving a Daytona designed by a different Pete Brock. I saw the BRE/ Datsun racing references too.
So these are TWO Pete(r) Brocks. Wow! Well, then maybe I can find the guy in Seattle area after all.
