But IMO there will be both mint stock 928s and full-race hacked-up 928s running around for some time to come. They definitely sold more 928s than Panteras.

But the new 08 Corvette coupe comes with 426hp and a promise to fix it if it brakes for a good amount of time , a slicker shifting 6 speed, HUD, and dozens of other small, incremental improvements, which is something Porsche used to do as well. They directly dealt with the complaints on interior quality with a big leather option.

Just two days ago I was coming back from a meeting out past Pasadena. I was within a few car lengths of a Z06 and being an auto enthusiast was simply enjoying the look of the car. Suddenly a motorbike pulled up alongside me, glanced over twice and gave me a huge thumbs up. About 25 minutes later when I was closer to home a Chevy pick up truck went by in the car pool lane, slowed a bit and the passenger gave me a thumbs up. Then within 10 minutes of home, yet another motorcycle waved his appreciation. It was indeed a banner day for my old 89, 200,000+ mile 928s4.

I live in a small town of 9 thousand but in the banana belt where many peopole have toys....i can think of 6 corvettes is see regularly........two of them c5's.......and they don't turn a head......the 19 year old 928 gets the looks from all ages and sexes....heard a couple of 15-16 year olds the other day.....one said.....now, that's class......and thats the difference for me. I drive something few others do or even could (for various reasons) and thats while i'll keep drivin and improvin the 928.

Yo MaineLandShark, in 10 words or less, what is the best vette to own and drive between 1963-1967?

Personally my favorite would be the most refined is the 67. Preferably the coupe in Tuxedo Black over a black interior. Best engines option – the 427 ci L89 (an L71 430hp but with alloy heads).
Too cools for school!

Split window is unique, but the car got better up to 67. 65 was the first year for 4 wheel discs, which were excellent brakes, and the factory side exhaust, which was very nasty sounding (absolutely no mufflers). Personally I like the 66 with K-H knock-offs, the last year before they were banned in favor of the bolt-on wheels. I had a 66 two-top w/ factory side exhaust and 5 K-H knock-offs. It was a fun ritual each morning to go around the car with the lead hammer and pound the spinners tight. I miss that car a lot, but as I've said elsewhere, I haven't cared much for any Vette since the 67. Here are some old photos of my first, long-lost (car) love. It actually hurts to looks at them and remember what a fun and strikingly beautiful car it was.

For that Bill hit the nail on the head. In fact, the 63 is considered the worst corvette next to the 68 as far as driveability and build quality of the non-solid axle cars.
So much for being a Vette expert
Bill,
My father had two 60's, 63 convertible, 65 coupe, 69 big block and a pair of 74's before switching to German cars. When he recalls what each carl bought / sold for...
He also recalls a trip to a Ford dealer back in the 60's. Him and a friend were going to dump their Vette's for Cobra's. They decided that they were such an oddball car they wouldn't be worth anything down the road.
