My 89 has the orignal finish on the cam covers and intake. It is a creamy tan. However, when I removed the intake and looked underneath, it was silvery there! It appears the color changes over time and perhaps related to heat exposure. I not sure how it looked when it left the factory. I've seen many that are tan like mine and many that are silver on the exposed surfaces.

I agree, and to the right person it is probably worth every penny.

Yes, that is what happens to the Zermatt silver as it is effected by heat. The Zermatt silver has tan pigments in it and the heat and age seams to bring it out.

My S2 with 106k miles is even a darker color tan, mostly from age and use.

So with less use and heat it should be more silver.

Unless he forces someone to buy this under threat or physical force, and it does sell, it isn't a ripoff. It's called free market economy, or Capitalism for short.

Oh yea.... you're right

But for $70,000? I can buy 5 good 928 S4s Dunno what'd I do with them though.... perhaps make a Rennlist donation to a 944 NA guy that keeps crying about the lack of power in his car like I did.

Yes, but for a person who wants only a GTS and a '95 in A1 condition how many are there to chose from? He sold Nick Cages GTS with 6k miles on it a few years back for close to $70k and now the market appears to be commanding a higher premium for these cars. How many people don't think twice about dropping double that price for a new 997TT. How many people dropped over $90 k on a new 996 to now only have a car worth $30k a few years later. If you keep this car in A1 shape odds are you will always get 90-100% or more of your money out of it and have had it to drive. Do you think you will get 90% out of the S4 in 10 years?

Not unusual at all, there is a good chance it will be up on e-bay a few more times and still won't sell there. But for $40.00 you can not buy better advertising. If I recall, the last few GTS's that were up there were purchased outside of the auction, but were noticed from it.

Nah.....I couldn't buy it.

I'd probably commit suicide if I accidentally broke wind in the car.

Well, this thread has progressed (kinda) since I last posted. Does anyone else see the same comments cycle over and over whenever this kind of subject comes up or is it just me?

I guess it's gonna take someone to step outside of the normal Rennlist box to have a different view of this...ready...here I go...(again)

(You have to imagine that I am a buyer or collector of finer European, even American, cars and I happen across this vehicle.,.also I have no clue as to what Rennlist is and care not to spend my life on the internet forums and chat rooms as I have worked hard over the years to build wealth and my appreciation of automobile technology and art)

That is a REALLy nice car! Wow, in 12 years it has only received 10K+ of road time. Thats aboout 900 miles on average per year. The guy probably has a fleet of high end cars and finds that he is unable to give the car the attention it needs. He just mght happen to be an older gentleman that cannot get in or out of the car as easy these days....probably selling several out of his collection Or maybe he needs to make room for another high end car he has waited 20 years to acquire...or maybe he felt the car will not bring any collectible status anytime soon based on how quickly the value has dropped and the cars have fallen into the hands of so many that don't understand it or can appreciate it for what it is..........hmmmmm. What ever the case may be, it appears to be well maintained too. I just noticed, this car looks as if it could be a new style with it's contemporary looks. Lines that are reserved for the more expensive cars in the world. Ah...interesting, the starting price is $70K. It seems that when this car was sold, price may have been in the $90K+ range on the low side and I would basically be getting 10% depreciation rate based on a car that happened to be the last of what was considered the worlds greatest GT car produced by world reknown Porsche AG. By all accounts, the sale price should be well into the $100K's...wonder why it isn't? Never the less, the price seems very fair considering it is still a Porsche 928 GTS and absolutely nothing has changed from the day it rolled out of the factory and onto the showroom floor at a price that only a select few in the world could afford. It still has all the technology and forward thinking equipment and finer materials of the day. I have always liked these cars and have heard only good things about them over the years they were produced. Actually, I have the perfect spot for this car in my building/collection/2nd home/6 car garage/......

(Now imagine I am.................one of you guys.....and can barely afford the one I own. Sure, it runs, it's a little tired, but they're made to beat the crap out of, I only paid $8K for it. Why buy the 928 the way it was intended to be, by its true concept of a "better than the best" and all that came after that? I can have 10, OK at best running 928's for that price. Then I will feel much better about who I am in the world justifying my methods of spending even though I could have saved all these years for a car like this rather than funnel all of my earnings into what I have that never quite seems to be more than...OK)

Ready?.....fill in the blank ____________________________............

Just saw a piece today on a 71 cuda hemi convert. that is one of 12 going up for auction and is expected to get up to 5 million. Being that there are only 12 or 13 5-speed 928's logic says that some day these to should be worth a lot once the auto world realizes their rarity. Why is this wrong to assume?

It's interesting that the underside of my intake is still silver. So, that means it's cooler down there in the valley even though it is closer to the motor. The heat must travel up the intake from the contact area on the ports on the motor. Makes some sense, but I wrongly thought the radiant heat would cook the underside.
