I'm sorry if the last 4 hours Tim, Todd and I spent talking about what we could do in order to make sure Mark ends up with the best motor possible, did not end in the results you wanted. I'll consult you next time - what is your number, so the next conference call we have about this project, we can include you.
Should I share with you what Todd charges per hour and take that out of the motor fund? We would be in debt considering the amount if time he has poured into this project. And all you can do is bitch and moan we are not using the "proper" pistons.

And how many miles does Greg Gray have on those Mahle pistons now? Is it more than herr Kuhn has on the three nikasil engines he's done, or more than the miles Joe Fan has on his nikasil stroker motor track car?
I thought option 5 was Matt continues to play armchair quarterback and talk about stuff that he has no direct experience with.

Do you or anyone really want to put a 6 liter with 9:1 compression in the holbert car? especally after we know what that would probably make as far as power (350rwhp ish)
I think most, even myself, didnt realize what the risks were up front and now, based on what we all know, some changes needed to be made.
I think if we can make some changes, and make this the right motor to start with, later mods can be made for even more HP. where does it all end? at andersons level? CF intake, dry sump, acid dip the chassis, remount all the supsension components, Motons, F50 brakes, etc etc. One thing ive learned in this racing gig, is that the incrental costs go up linearly, whle lap times go down much slower.
If i can get 400rwhp, it would make the car competitive with amost any car ive faced, especially at Laguna seca! after that there maybe issues with other components that need to be strengthened and changed to realize the full potential of the new found power. I still have stock S4 brakes. they are driven almost to the limit now. how much more speed can they take before they become inadaquate?
So the point is, the engine as Tim said, was designed for supercharging. The list got behind a "make the Hobert car go faster and put down the VRL vipers that show up at race day." The fact that the Tim and the team are understanding the reality of the situation is a show of class, because if they wanted to, certainly they wouldnt be blamed for just dropping the 6 liter on my front doorstep for me to deal with.
Keep in mind, we all want this to be a successful transplant and one we all can be proud of.

Hell, I pissed off 75% of the local PCA chapter last week. Guess the 928 Rennlist group is my target this week.

Good point that Tim is posting labor for free. As for the `"Waaa, BoooHooo, that is not how I would do it"` crowd, just ask them where is your race car?
As for differing opinions, all input is valued and gleened for the good stuff and the remainder placed to the side. I am not an expert on motors, just a techno-geek and astronomer.
Remember we are all guys and have TM's, and there is nothing to cure it.

I don't think Greg has any. How many miles are on all 928s? Oh that's right Mahle forgot how to make pistons for Alusil blocks since the 928. How many miles on Cayennes? Oops that's a truck, not a sports car. How many miles on M5s? Gee, that's a BMW, not a Porsche. Keep making up excuses.

BTW: The first IM I received about this from somebody pissed off was somebody saying "I thought this was runnable as is plus heads. That's what Erik said." I defended you guys saying all that needs to be changed is the pistons (and maybe Nikasilling if you guys decided to go that route) and that was obvious from the beginning. Now it sounds like everything is gone except the crank and rods. At this poinjt, why not build the engine Mark wants... which sounds basicly like Mark A's.

I have to get up in 5.5 hours. Enjoy the circlejerk without me. For the 4th and 3rd times, respectively:

Mark doesn't want it.
So, we have two options based on this:
1. give the money back
2. deliver the motor and let Mark do what he wants - IT'S THAT SIMPLE
---or--- Help Mark accomplish what he probably would have done anyway with the motor in Tim's garage. We choose that route.

There are other options:
Current engine with different pistons.
Put the money towards what Mark really wants, an engine with 968 pistons.
Give it all to me to convert my car to a racecar (just kidding)
Why wasn't this explained before all the money was raised? That is the complaint. The end result is not what was stated as the intended result.
G'night.
